Just an excuse?

Ok, there is a guy I have a crush on and we have hung out together to get coffee and we always end up talking for over 2 hours or so. He's pretty shy so I figured I've have to make the first move. I had tickets to a baseball game and invited him. We went and had a good time. He paid for my drinks so I was kind of wondering if that was a date.
But anyway I had asked him to go to a movie and we had made plans to go last night. I was supposed to call him after work and I did and he asked if we could postpone it. He had tried to call my cell phone but it was dead. He said he'd had a long day and was just really tired and was afraid if he went to the movie, he'd just fall asleep. We didn't really decide on another day to go but we threw out a few other days that were good for both of us.
I just wonder, have any of you heard that from a guy before? I was a little disappointed because I just felt like maybe it was an excuse and he that even if he was tired, if he liked me he'd still want to see me. But I might just be being overly negative. I don't know.
And I don't really know what we are. The baseball game felt like a date but nothing has really changed. I just don't know if he likes me as a friend or more.
Sorry this was so long!

It does sound like an excuse.
Yeah unfortunately I agree. "I'm just so tired," is 9 times out of 10 an excuse. And even if he were too tired to go out, he'd darn well make sure he set something up for another time.
Remember: when a guy likes you, he'll MAKE SURE you know.
