My nieces received Nintendo DS games for X-mas. They aren't the newest, hottest versions out there but they are still so cool! The youngest got a game called "Cooking Mama". One picks out what they would like to make, chops up the ingredients, combines it in the pot (or in the dough, pasta, pie, etc.) and bakes/simmers it for the appropriate amount of time. If it gets overcooked, the mom appears on the screen and says, "It's okay, mama will fix it".

Now, I love to cook so I think it's neat b/c the little ones are actually, in a way, getting to practice for their future cooking endeavors. The same niece that loves this game also loves the racing kind so I'm not too concerned that she will be pigeonholed, LOL. I guess one could say that it is an equal opportunity gaming world that she is living in. I just think it's great that she has a choice! All I had was Pit Fall, Donkey Kong and Frogger! (And they were the best!)

My 11-year-old cousin got the Ninendo Wii and he got this fishing game....it was kind of funny to watch him play the fishing game - he had the "Wii-mote controller" on one hand, and you fling it like you're casting a line with a fishing rod.

It is amazing, technology these days. I never thought I'd be the aunt sitting around saying things like, "Well, back in my day ... ". Ha-Ha.

Don't knock Pitfall it was an art to land on those alligators heads correctly.

Oh and how about Qbert sometimes despite the fact you were pushing your joystick to the left he would jump right off the right side of the top of the pyramid. HAHA!!!

Oh I loved my Atari.

Smile,

Deirdre

Yeah, Qbert was great, but some reason, I always favored the Qbert's inside of the arcades. Maybe it was because of what you mentioned. He didn't always do exactly what we wanted or instructed him to do ; )

It did take skill to land correctly when jumping on Pit Fall, but what always got me were those annoying tsetse flies! LOL!
