Does it really happen or only in movies?

In movies or television, if a girl likes a guy, she'll be looking at him from a distance, and when he looks her way, she smiles, winks or mouths the word "hi" or something.
I've NEVER seen this happen in real life. Does it? I heard that if a girl likes a guy, she'll be looking at him from a distance, but when he looks her way, she darts her eyes around nervously or quickly turns her head or pretends she wasn't looking at you. Is that how it really happens?

I'm usually the girl who gets shy and looks away nervously.
Those things happen. I have had it happen more than once.. My problem is how to get it past hi.. or hola..
I have had guys stare at me and trip over themselves or other people, had a guy walk in to a pole.. Now they say hola out of embarassment. How do I meet any of these guys?? the one that walked in to the pole was hot!! but too embarrased to talk to me. UGG..
And I'm bold as brass. (Big surprise LOL)
If I see I guy I like the looks of, I'll go right up to talk to him.
One guy I dated for a while - saw him across the room, my group of friends and I walked past him to go to the 2nd level of the club we were in and I gave him a flirty smile...got to the stairs, turned around and gave him the "come hither" with the forefinger and we were together from that night on for about 6 months.
