That's a good point, and surgeons actually have much better schedules than other doctors because most of their procedures are scheduled on specific days. If it said ER doc or OBGYN, that would be a different story.

I also dispute "poor." Now that I'm a homeowner/property tax payer, I get the annual report from our local school district, and the average teacher salary here is pretty much on par with mine (or higher)

Perhaps they should have left the professions off the poll, making the question more neutral,

Don't go by those average salaries.

I think what they were trying to do by including professions is make both men look virtuous.

And don't let it irritate you so much....the person who wrote the question probably has no idea of the realities of eaither occupation chosen!

They broke down the numbers by years of service, degrees (master's +), etc. - - so the averages were for teachers in each category, i.e. 10 years of service with a master's degree, or 30 years of service with a bachelor's.

I do know that the district where I live is not really the norm, though. The teachers there are definitely paid better than in other areas.

I didn't know about the coaching stipends, etc. Good to know.

Do you get bonuses as a teacher, or is that just not done?

>> Well, I tend to take issue with many people's definition of "poor."

Funny you should mention the professional athletes. My friend and I were discussing last night that they are more highly paid that most of the rest of the world.
