What would you think?

This has been nagging at me lately (I'm into showing my slightly goofy vulnerable side lately apparently), but what would you all think if someone told you they'd never learned how to drive?

OK to be serious for a moment, start small. Go to a public golf course and zoom around in a golf cart. That will give you the feeling of being in control. Then you can graduate to bigger golf carts and then finally to a Geo Metro.
OK, to be really serious, since you can't rent on your own (gosh you're so young ! ), pay a friend, or at least pool money together to rent a small car over a weekend, and then drive around in it outside the city. You will quickly get the hang of it.

As someone who works in the rental car industry I would not advise her to do that as her friend would be libel for the car if she should happen to get in an accident in the car and she was not an authorized driver on the car.

Yep, I'm a baby.
Not strange at all especially living in Boston.
My friends mom never learned to drive, she worked at the mall so would take the bus into the mall and then at night my friend, her father or someone from work would bring her home. It was rather inconvenient for everyone else surrounding her but she didn't ever learn to drive because as a teenager she was in a really bad car accident with her sister and it scared her. So she refused to learn.
However, when we were in college her mom and dad moved to Granby CT which is like in the middle of nowhere, no public transportation and she was forced to learn to drive because nobody was around to drive her anywhere and she finally at the age of probably 48 got her license.
I think your better off joining a student driving course and learning to drive right in the city, Boston is the best place to learn, I'm very timid to drive in Boston it's a scary place, but had I learned there, I probably wouldn't be so timid so why not start off there. Everywhere else is a breeze.

Deirdre
This is so funny. I live in NYC too, and don't know how to drive either. Eep. I learned in high school but I just never got around to getting a license, or practicing, really. I only lament my lack of driving skills when I need to go to Ikea or something. :) And I'm 30... so
