It only gets worse...

I am not just a little angry...I am down right PISSED OFF!!!!!!!!! Two years ago, I filed joint tax returns with my STBX not knowing that he owed child support arrearages for his darling children (I say this with disgust)! We had a nice sum, (supposedly) coming back to us...needless to say, the IRS took that tax return to pay some of those arrearages. When I found this out, I b&**$ed up a storm and he just laughed at me...

Last year, I thought I was being smart by filing joint but, I filed injured spouse so they wouldn't do it again...well, guess what? They did do it again, but this time, it was for his 1994 tax that he owed money for! I called the IRS, and they told me that "when you married the man, you married his debts". I DID NOT KNOW THIS MAN IN 1994, AND I AM BEING CHARGED FOR HIS DEBT?!!!!!! I b$#%^ed again, and again, he laughed at me...

The other day, I filed my tax return without him, claiming EIC and Head of Household, only to find out today, that they have a tax levy against ME for his 1994 TAX RETURNS!!! They will take my return to pay off his tax debt! You guys, this was a 4013.00 return in my favor and they're gonna take it!!! OMG!!! I needed this money and I earned this money. This man can't even pay his child support, and I have to pay taxes for him when I didn't even know him? Please someone make sense of this for me!!!!

Save every letter and correspondence you get from the IRS. When you go to court, have the judge order a judgement against him in the amount of the taxes that were his that you paid.

Similar things have happened to me. My refund got taken when we were married cuz he owed child support. Then he didn't pay taxes one year, and my refund got taken (we were separated 1 year already). The judge ordered him to pay the taxes-but the IRS didnt care about a court order. So they took my money. Nope, its not fair at all.....

You can try to recoup this money though. Speak with your attorney....

I did speak with my attorney and now HE's pissed too!!! My STBX was the one who filed for the divorce, and we (my attorney and I) are the ones doing all the "motions" to end this thing, QUICKLY...he is fighting us all the way! Why, I wonder?

I can't believe these kind of men exist! Too bad they don't put men like this in jail! Just for being STUPID!!!!! I'm supposed to pick up my DD at 7:00 a.m. my time, and I have a bad feeling that my STBX is getting ready to flee the state! He did get served with the contempt of court papers, and whenever he gets threatened in any way, he hides. I've seen this happen before! I just hope he doesn't try to take our dd, although I would not put it past him. And yes, he has always threatened to take her away from me, but when I voiced my fears to the court, they would not listen to me. I think, that they think, that I am losing my mind...I guess, in a way, I am!!! If he takes her...

I am so greatful in knowing that I am not the only one who is living through this (I mean that in the kindest way)...thank you debs1999!!! I appreciate the post and your loving thoughts! Afterall, isn't that why we're women?

The IRS can sometimes be ruthless. They take first, and ask questions later (and only get to the second step if you get a lawyer). Sorry your Stbx is such an (insert your preferred word here).

I have a friend going through this, but it's for his back taxes. He abandoned her in two pregnancies, totally controlled the money and now he's in 'uncollectable' status and they are coming after her. Two of the years they were separated.

See at tax attorney. File an 'innocent spouse'. The IRS is easier than the state to deal with, atleast mine. The feds let her off, but the state hasn't. You can go after him and get a judgement and in my state, they will attach a judgement to child support.

There are so many things that just simply bite and are so unfair it's crazy! It costs several thousand dollars to get them to do a judgment.........it's madening! My ex woulnd't pay medical. I filed contempt and they allowed him time to 'pay it'. It had already been like 8 months!!! He owes 88%, yet I've had to pay 100%. It's wrong, sick and wrong. I've still struggled with chewing and swallowing some of the injustices. See an accountant, sometimes they can help give you ideas of what to file or how to fight it.

Sorry gal. That REALLLLLLY sucks!
