If you have a member website, please check your e mail or read this notice here... (basically, the hosting of the websites is changing and you need to log into your site to give iVillage permission to transfer the site to Lycos)..... it sounds like there will be fewer problems and more perks for the websites with Lycos.
As an iVillage member who has created or currently has a Member Website, we have some important news to share with you. iVillage will no longer be providing this service as of February 28, 2005. Over the next week, Lycos, Inc. will be providing an option to relocate or move your Member Websites to its Tripod Website development hosting service. Lycos Tripod will offer you this service for free, or if you prefer you may choose one of its many premium services at an additional fee. Please take a moment to read the information below to find out why we are making this change and what you will need to do to maintain your site.
iVillage has provided free Member Websites for approximately seven years. During that time, there have been significant improvements in Website development services across the Internet. Lycos Tripod, one of the first companies to offer free Websites, is committed to providing high-quality service, and, with your permission, will be taking over maintenance of your Member Website through its Tripod service. Lycos Tripod currently provides access to many features that are not available with your existing Website, including additional page templates; the ability to FTP files, online journals and photo albums; and the option to purchase additional file storage space for your site. We're pleased to announce that Lycos Tripod has offered to host the sites that you and all of our members created.
In order to move your site, we need your permission. If you want your site moved over, please complete this simple form so that Lycos Tripod can contact you and move your site. On this form, you will be asked to provide iVillage with permission to send Lycos Tripod your iVillage user name and email address, as well as a new password that will be used to create your Lycos account. To use Lycos Tripod services, you will need to become a member of Lycos Tripod, and as such you should review its Privacy Policy <http://info.lycos.com/privacy/privacy.asp> and Terms of Service <http://info.lycos.com/legal/legal.asp>, as they differ from those of iVillage. Your permission will not affect any other aspect of your iVillage membership. If you have multiple accounts using the same email address, your permission is only required once to move ALL of your iVillage Websites to Lycos Tripod. We anticipate that the migration will take place in the next two weeks. During the migration, your site may not be accessible. After completion, Lycos Tripod will contact you again to provide you with the new URL for your site. Please be aware that if you do not want your site to be moved or you do not fill out the form by February 28, 2005, your site will no longer be accessible.
We are sorry if this change causes any inconvenience to you. However, we believe that you will be pleased with the service Lycos provides.
We appreciate your understanding with this matter. Please feel free to contact MemberWebsites@mail.ivillage.com <mailto:MemberWebsites@mail.ivillage.com> if you should have any questions.
