Pats on the back

I love the thread started by wsidtoday about congratulating herself for doing something she had never tried before and succeeding. That's a terrific way to re-build some of the self esteem that can be damaged by divorce/marriage failure. Let's all give ourselves a "pat on the back" for doing something new or difficult.
I'll start--
I've been trying to spruce up my house on a very limited budget (a common dilemma, I'm sure). I've been wanting a comfy chair for my bedroom to read in. Found one at a church garage sale for $7--torn 80's fabric but otherwise in good shape. Cleaned it up, bought a slipcover with a 20% off coupon, put it together and it looks great! Had a throw pillow that coordinates. Now I have a great chair for only about $65. Now, I'm on the prowl for a cute footstool.
I also successfully replaced the innards of my slow-moving toilet and it works great! Just followed the directions--no plumber.
During my marriage we had a running joke that my ex was not "allowed" to touch any tools or attempt any repairs. I always did that stuff. He's an extremely intelligent man but a mechanical doofus. I had to laugh when DD told me about ex and new wife having a big fight about him hooking up the TV cable wrong. So typical! So grateful I don't have to listen to that rant anymore!
I have discovered that I AM a very CAPABLE person...
What wonderful things have ya'll done that you wish to congratulate yourselves for? I'd love to hear some good news.

I've had some frames for a while for a project that had taken the back burner.... framing some of my kid's art work from when they were younger... AND framing some cute snapshots that I had of face painting, "ta da" moments, "CHEESE" moments,

i am very proud of myself for going back to school. its something that was on my mind for years. i started college a million years ago and "almost" -but never -finsihed. *those* credits are mostly lost, and i have to start all over from scratch (and they don't give credit in this country for "life experiences").... and i know that its going to take me forever - but I DON"T CARE. whatever it takes - i will do it. i sit in class with those 20 year olds - and i feel sooooo great about myself. just last week i actually raised my hand and answered a question - its a really tough class - most of the students are third year or MA students - and i was afraid of saying something stupid - but then i thought "hey, this is what they mean by LEARNING and its ok to make a mistake" and in the end the lecturer loved my answer! so there, i am really proud of myself.
I am also proud of myself for going to gym and exercising - its not easy - and i really need to do more- but i am so proud of myself when i finish a strenuous workout.

Good for you! It's an accomplishment to learn something new--gives you confidence to try that next thing...
I've been wanting to switch two of my bedroom cieling fans--they will "go better" with the opposite rooms' decor. Maybe I'll give it a try if it's not too hard. Don't have the instructions anymore, though.
Sometimes I feel like the proverbial "old dog" learning new tricks.
Woof!
A BIG PAT ON THE BACK AND ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO YOU ALL!
I love the feeling of accomplishment/satisfaction I get from doing things on my own!
WOOOHOO!

I started small...I took the ugly black and green curtains down in my bedroom...got rid of the ugly sheets and blanket (everything was earth tones) and replaced them with blue curtains, blue sheers and white and blue bed in a bag! My room is so much sunnier and brighter than I ever imagined! I never knew my bedroom could and is really inviting to me!
Than this weekend (drum roll ladies) I replaced the garbage disposal in the kitchen after it was broken for a year. I didn't know how nice that sound really was until I turned it on and viola!!! Now my trash can will smell pretty again!!! LOL!
BIG, BIG pats on our backs!
