i started seeing a therapist about two months ago and have been to see her maybe 5 or 6 times. She's elderly, but smart and I felt like it clicked -- in the beginning. Then i noticed that she seemed to talk about her life as much as mine. Well, today, she fell asleep!!!!

What was I supposed to do? Wake her up? I sat there resenting the fact that I was put in this position and I didn't say anything. I felt like a dope. She was asleep for FIVE minutes!!! Her head fell to the side. I'm not kidding! When she woke up she quickly asked a question that vaguely had something to do with our conversation, but she fought to keep her eyes open for the remaining 15 minutes. It was ridiculous! A Seinfeld show.

Here I am feeling like hell about myself just finding out that my ex left me for another woman and he wants to involve the kids -- I go to a therapist so maybe I can feel a little better about myself and I'm so boring she falls asleep!

I'm 48 and that was my first and last time to a therapist.

It very often takes 2-3 therapists to find the right one. It also is common to see someone a few times before you decide that the particular therapist is right or not right. Please don't rule out seeking help just because this woman fell asleep! She obviously has a problem and is not the right person to help you. But therapy with the right person can change your life. I am decades ahead of where I would be now without therapy.

I, too, am an advocate of therapy.... and I'm sorry that your first experience was less than favorable.
