Help! Is he trying to screw me?

My husband took off over 5 years ago but we are not divorced (yet) and we're not in the process of one right now either. He lives in the area, I live in our home. We are not on speaking terms, but he got in touch with me to inform me that we have to refinance the mortgage because it was only for 10 years and at the end of the ten years you either have to pay it all off or refinance it. I am now worried that he may try something sneaky like borrow extra money to pay off his credit card bills that he ran up wining and dining women. Or I'm thinking he may have taken out loans against our house without my knowledge, and now he's going to try to cover that up as well... What can I do to protect myself? I know he wants to sell the house pretty soon. I don't, but that is not the issue right now. The issue is refinancing this mortgage. Don't say talk to a lawyer because I don't have the money, but I'm not poor enough for free assistance. I really doubt there is anything a lawyer can do at this point anyway since we are still legally married and have not started divorce proceedings. I know I have to go along with this refinancing thing and I'm just wondering what I should look out for. Please advise!

What about refinancing in your name only? That way you will know you can keep the house. Do you depend on him for any financial support? Are you paying the mortgage now all by yourself?
