STBX came over to dig up a portion of our cement basement floor, so that a repair could be made on a pipe going to the well. He also brought his laundry, which I didn't mind. He also reattached a small section of gutter that had been pulled off the house by the massive ice dams we had over the winter.

My dad had come over Friday evening for birthday dinner, and I had some leftover brownies, so I gave them to STBX, as well as a box of granola that I can't eat because it upsets my digestion.

Anyway, he filled up his water bottles here, and as he was preparing to leave for his apartment, he made some comments about how he doesn't understand how the furnace guy is going to charge us $250. to winterize the system, secure some loose pipes, and replace 2 valves in they system. STBX asked if I had any money, and I told him that I'd just written a bunch of checks for bills, including this year's school insurance, so my account was pretty low. He muttered something about me -- "go take a pill" -- which I ignored, and he had to "get out of here." As he was walking to his truck, he's muttering on about how he has to pay for all this stuff. I simply stated, "If this stuff had been done correctly IN THE FIRST PLACE, it wouldn't cost so much NOW." And I walked into the house. :-) That felt good.

It's all about them after all isn't it? They do more than we do and are good at barking out orders from wherever they are. It's easy to tell someone how to deal with the kids, house, finances from a distance, but actually living it is another story.

Yup, according to STBX, its MY fault these things around the house are costing him money. It's NOT because HE screwed up installing all these things that need to be fixed. Gee, it's funny, when STBX & I bought our house in 1990, we had the house inspected. The ONLY issues at the time were the roof rafters needed extra bracing, and some soil around the foundation needed to be regraded. 15 years later, and after STBX changed the heating system, added electricity and fiddled with the electrical box), fiddled with the gas appliances, resided the house, reroofed the house, among others (ALL without inspection/permits), THOSE things are the things that need to be fixed! and he has the nerve to get mad at ME because I showed some initiative and am having these issues taken care of by PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING!! Gawsh, what a buffon he is!

Well my idiot ex is a carpenter and the side porch which is concrete was cracked and leaking into the basement on to the oil tank. Soooooooooooo Mr. Einstein built a wall up around it in the cellar so that it couldn't be seen from down there. Out of sight out of mind I guess. Didn't help the oil tank any.

I had to have the legs replaced on the damn thing and had to tear down his stupid wall so that the guy I hired could come in and fix the real problem, the porch.

Also we were having TERRIBLE problems with the upstairs shower having very little hot water and zero water pressure. The ex rambled on about how all the pipes were going to have to be emptied and cleaned out and how it was going to cost big bucks. I had a friend come in and look at the pipes and in about 5 seconds he found a valve that was half closed up! Once he opened it I had water and had the best shower I've had in months.

Yesterday on Ask This Old House, they had a lady whose shower was out of hot water, and all it took was replacing a valve. An easy fix. I LOVE that show!

Well on mine, the valve was partially turned off. My friend came over and turned it on and then when we started the shower and water spewed out we just stood there looking at each other in shock!! I am not kidding when I say that it took less than 5 minutes to fix and costed NOTHING.
