When you're having a rough day, what do you do to cheer yourself up? What outlets have you found that benefit you in a positive way? Have you taken up any new hobbies to keep yourself busy and to boost your self esteem? Tell us what you've been up to.

I like to ride my bike. One evening STBX called and was snotty and unreasonable. After that I rode my bike for four miles to get the frustration out. Now that it's getting darker earlier, that might not be an option much longer.

I also like to eat my favorite snacky foods (I can keep anything around now without enduring his disapproving attitude) but that's not really healthy!

I've ordered an exercise ball and DVDs from QVC; they should be here any day now.

Years ago, I would read the Far Side if I was in a bad mood. It always made me laugh! I'll have to get those books out again.

I am a runner so when I'm really angry I can really take on those hills. Friday I was ticked at the ex for once again overriding my authority with the oldest DS and I went out back and me and my daughter shoveled loam on part of the lawn that I'm re-doing. It was fun grunting and heaving shovel fulls.

I'm also fixing up my house one project at a time. Every weekend that the kids are with him I take on a small project. It's fun to surprise the kids. I am also taking time to watch my "Lost" DVD's so that I am caught up for the 2nd season. I have my own little nirvana set up here.

I've taken up knitting to help me relax. It really works wonders! I'm the type that can't just sit and watch a TV show, I have to be working on something. I've made so many smaplers and whatnot for everyone else, and now I'm working on projects for me! I've made a poncho that I've gotten lots of compliments on, and I'm starting a new one with autumn colors.

I also love music, which has helped me through crappy times since I was little. I have some classical relaxation cds that are fantastic. Sometimes Metallica and Priest are a bit too heavy to relax to, LOL, and Vivaldi really fits the bill nicely.

I have to alternate depending on what fits the need at the moment. I like to get out the sewing machine sometimes. Right now I am making two blankets with some luxurious damascus. I have such a weakness for fine fabrics. I sometimes pull out the paints. Nothing takes my mind off of unwanted thoughts like painting (old school style). I also enjoy painting murals if I can find the time. I am currently painting a nice pastoral scene with airplanes on my son's wall. I also like to garden.
