Crying at Disney Movies...

Hi everyone,

I am new to this board and hope to fill you all in on my story soon. I just wanted to mention an event that happened to me yesterday and I'm sure all of you can relate. I am in the middle of the divorce process. We have two kids DS (12) and DD (8).

Yesterday I took the kids to see that movie Shaggy Dog. At one point in the movie the kids were convinced that mom and dad were going to get a divorce. The mom was sad cuz dad kept being a big old disappointment. Anyway I jsut started to cry. It was an appropriately sad point of the movie, but not to cry about!! I didn't realize that DS had noticed me crying and he asked me if I was. I lied and laughed it off. Of course, in the end in a very Disney sort of way the dad pulls through and they are the "perfect" family again...which was even more sad for me.

I felt bad for my kids because I know they were wishing that THEIR dad had just pulled through like that. I know they were. It was just plainly evident. But, I certainly think it was more lasting on me.

Anyway just another load of bricks that comes your way. I guess they get less and less frequent...? I hope so. I can't go on crying at Disney Movies!! ;)

Hugs,
Jan

Jan, I'm super-emotional and have always cried at movies like that! But I can certainly relate to how you feel. For a long period of time, I stayed away from any movie that had underlying romantic themes. Did you see the trailer for the movie Tristan and Isolde? That would put me over the edge every time!

It's OK for you to show your children that you feel sad or disappointed. Just reassure them that you will always be there for them, even if you feel sad. Over time, those feelings will diminished. You'll be surprised.

Hello, Jan!

While Pianoguy hasn't seen the latest "SHAGGY DOG" (with Tim Allen)....he grew up watching dozens and dozens of Walt Disney movies.

Here's the secret as to why they touched so many of us to the point of crying.

IT WAS THE BACKGROUND MUSIC!

Walt Disney hired some wonderful film score composers (Oliver Wallace, Paul J. Smith, Leigh Harline---are 3 that immediately come to mind) who stirred up with the right combinations of chords and tempos that would guarantee AUDIENCE TEARS! True...the stories and situations in both the animated and live action films could be traumatic at times....but the music accentuated the feelings each of us have...and subsequently, opened up "the floodgates!"

I honestly wish some of these scores were available on CD? It would be fun to listen to them and conjure up a memory or two?
