My take is... it provides a "united front" to the child, and even though the parents are divorced, it sends the child a message that "hey, mom and dad can be civil... and discuss things related to me... so... I know I can count on THEM if I need THEM... and I know I'd better not try to play one against the other because.... they communicate... and it'll never fly."

Of course, you only know how much is "too much" and the entirety of everything that's going on... but if it's an every now and then, semi frequent thing where the child is ALWAYS there and he's doing something with (or about) the child... then.... enjoy the time for yourself :-) and be glad that his EX isn't a nightmare.

but.... that's just my take on it :-)

My ex and I present a common front to our son in terms of rules, discipline, and other parenting issues.

However, I would never hang out with my son at his mothers place.
