I understand that an inheritance is not part of the marital estate unless it has been comingled with marital property/finances.

No. Comingle is defined as depositing the inheritance in a jointly owned account (checking, IRA, brokeage, etc). The only claim you could make would be perhaps a portion of the dividends from the interest deposited into a joint account. Sorry.
