I'm very new here, and I'm sorry to just dive in and spill, but this seems to be the only place all over the internet where people aren't viscious. I feel like the rug has been pulled out from beneath me. I feel like my life is some kind of joke. My ex-husband is incarcerated out of state and has still managed to continue hurting me, despite his location.

Wow, you are really going through a lot. How old is your son? If you asked his uncle to stay over at grandma's w/ him, I hope he would do it and maybe your son would even enjoy it. I'm sure she isn't too happy about having a son who is a convicted rapist. She must have been proud to say "my son is a lawyer" and now it's the exact opposite. Maybe she is just acting out of fear. I'm not saying this to defend her, because she should realize that you aren't the enemy, just that people do strange things sometimes. I hope it will get better soon.

I also hope you have an atty. Do you just owe the IRS for taxes because you didn't pay enough or did he cheat somehow on that too? I ask because there is an "innocent spouse" kind of thing where if one person somehow lied on their taxes (like not reporting all that they made) and the other spouse didn't know about it, they can only go after the guilty party. But if he just underpaid withholding or something like that, the IRS can unfortunately go after your assets too. But they are usually pretty good about making a payment plan. Is he paying child support or did he lose all his assets due to his crime, having to pay a lawyer, etc.? If so, where does he get money to pay for his girlfriend? As far as having a new girlfriend, you can just pity her for what she is going to get into. Who would be stupid enough to marry a convicted rapist? Like I always wondered how OJ Simpson got another girlfriend, even though he wasn't convicted of killing his ExW, wasn't that enough to make someone worried?

Oh it is an awful situation. Our son is 5 and he is NOTHING short of amazing. :) I'm not sure if my X's bro would stay at his mom's overnight or not. I am praying for it, though. Actually, I am really hoping they just let him stay with his uncles (they have an apartment on a college campus). I really hope the communication between us will improve and that she'll start getting the bigger picture. I am sure she is upset over her son, but certainly, after a full year of him being in prison, she can't still hold it against me? I can only imagine the kind of devastation
