UNbeleieveable. Its all OK ... NOW ...
So i was told to bring a copy of the RO to the Police station so they had it on file. The cop says to me "Ok, if he breaks it, let us know & we will file a report". I said "No, he will be arressted, correct?". He said "No, a Family court order doesnt result in arrest". I said "Its a 3 yr Criminal RO, meaning, he GETS ARRESTED for breaking it, even just contacting me, emailing me, text messaging me, being in a public place where i am & not leaving". Cop insisted "Nope, no arrests would be made unless he broke the law & was violent or something".

Absolutely. Way ahead of you - I posted this earlier elsewhere & am going in teh AM:
After thinking about this all, I am INSISTING on speaking to the Police Cheif tomorrow, & giving him a peice of my mind about his staff & insisting that some staff EDUCATION be done.
That is SICK, CORRUPT... and probably criminal....
Let us know how it goes!

So - supposedly now the Cheif has turfed me to speak to this Leuitenent whom I KNOW has a bad rep for being a pompous ass.
Yup, it all sucks.
Hi - thank you for your words. I do realize the seriousness of his instability. But I have to
First off - I am sorry if I sounded flippant or snotty, that was not my intent.
THANK YOU.
I am told this IS a Criminal Protection order- RO , good for 3 yrs. The reason the confusion came in at the Police station was that usual Family court
You've had such good advice already that I wasn't going to add anything, but your thread has just stayed with me all day, so I decided to just send you a short message. I want to urge you to please contact your local domestic violence program. Believe me, these programs are not just for battered women. Years ago, I worked at such a program, and there were plenty of women who had to deal with abusers like your XH, women who were not battered but suffered nonetheless. Your local program can do more than help you emotionally or navigate the court system--difficulties you've handled on your own so far; these folks know the local law enforcement folks well, they've established a good working relationship with them. They can make the whole difficult process much easier for you, and they can navigate the rougher waters for you. Just having someone from you local program with you would prevent some of the nonsense you've had to cope with.
You seem like a very smart, very strong woman. I'm so impressed with the way you've handled everything so far. I hope you'll take this step. It will make such a difference for you, and for your daughter.
Best of luck.
Thank you. I actually already have been involved with them for a few years. When my H was phsycially abusive & threatening to kill me if i ever left him, thats where I went - to the DV shelter. They held my hand & walked me thru the affadavit for the RO & the advocate came to court with me. They also changed all my locks at no charge, & provided my dd counseling (I had a private one) with their child counselor for a couple of years.
This time, they also did the affadavit for the RO with me, but i had my own atty come to court with me for the final hearing b/c my X was having his atty defend him - & thank God I DID b/c Im not sure exactly what fell thru in the Womens Resource Center system, but no one from their legal defense ever contacted me for that final hearing so I would haev been in court, being grilled, by X's atty, w/ no representation for me. In fact, I need to call the center & see what happened b/c there wasnt anyone there to represent the center - & even when you have your own atty, apparently they still are supposed to be there as well.
