House Cleaning!!!!!

Well, my biggest problem is that my house always seems to be a mess. I find that when the house is cleanest is when I just dig in and do it on a Saturday. It usually takes me all day.

When Chuck moved in I would religously work 1 hour a day cleaning something and it looked pretty good. Now I can't seem to find 1 hour to do much of anything in the house. I think that I should go back to cleaning at least one area a day (ex. bathrooms Tuesday, den Monday, etc.)

What does everyone here do? How do you keep up from having the home look like a disaster area?

I have to say that I do have a bunch of kids and hubby that do pitch in, but in never seems to be enough.

Hugs, Marilyn

P.S. What makes it worse, is that I'm not the cleanest person around, and I find it painful to just spend the day cleaning.

I dislike cleaning, too.

I really try to "clean as I go" - every day I do something. Bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, floors.

Probably once a month I dig deep and spend more time. I think as long as you keep everything picked up and put away the dirt and dust show less.

I'm the same way, I try to clean as I go. I don't have a large place, so the clutter build up sure looks like MESS MESS MESS right away. I have put in place some rules for both my ds and I. He's not allowed to take out more than one toy into the living room. If he wants something else, he has to put the first one away. I try to get the dishes done every night. Vaccuuming, sweeping and bathroom once a week unless needed. I don't want to spend my life doing housework. My ds is good at helping, loves to sweep, mop and vaccuum. He's also a good bathtub scrubber.

My biggest chore? LAUNDRY. I HATE IT!!! There's just SOOOO much involved.... sort the clothes, bring them upstairs, put the washer on, time it, put the dryer on, and again cause it's old and doesn't dry with one turn, get the clothes (ie, don't forget them in the dryer...) then you have to fold, sort, put away, MAN it's NEVER ENDING..... Usually sits unfolded in the basket on my floor til the next time I need to do laundry...

I hate laundry most of the time too. I don't know why, but it's a chore I've always resented. LOL I am lucky in that I have an SO who doesn't mind doing it and actually takes the initiative. However, we've been busy lately and last night I finally broke down and started feeding the laundry monstor. That's all I did for the afternoon and evening last night. I was VERY proud. Except for the sheets on my bed, everything is done. I had to do 6 loads.

I used to be the same way with the laundry baskets. But that's another one of those habits I corrected when I got married. LOL

I am a pig too - I could so easily be on Clean Sweep or something. But I am working on it and here are 3 great tips :

1 - get rid of anything y ou haven't used in the last 2 years - unless it is really expensive, you can just re-buy it if the need arose. If you have a place to store it easily you can keep it too. But otherwise - pitch it. This especially goes for shoes, bags, clothes, and magazines.

2. Have storage. invest in cabinets, shelves or whatever you need to have a place for everything to go easily. That way you don't just leave it out. This includes a place for mail, coupons, and a file for things you want to save.

3. Do not buy anything without either having a place for it already or replacing something else. When you buy a new sweater - donate one you don't like that much anymore. Otherwise don't buy it.

Those help me a lot. It is work though! GL!
