what happened to Wednesday Woes?

I stopped taking birth control pills last month after months of doing a NOT so good job of taking them. (I'd forget 2 days in a row, than take three all together, etc...) I admit, by my own doing, that I sucked at it and therefore have not had a real period for almost 4 months. Well, now...I am having the period from HELL!!!!! It has come and with a vengeance!

To make matters worse, I am anemic. So this monster period is causing me all sorts of issues, such as absolute zero energy, dizziness and headaches.

I'm hoping by next month things will be back to normal.

D is getting "snipped" tomorrow. I love him for doing it so that I will no longer have to be on the pill, but if it turns out I have to stay on them because of my anemia I will cry!

urgh!

(((((HUG)))))

That really stinks Gabriella. I am sorry you are feeling miserable. But GOSH!! You lucky girl! I am also not so great with my pills. The result is that most times when J and I fool around he has to ask me if he needs to go grab a condom. I HATE being asked that in the moment. LOL

I can't wait till we know for sure what we're doing and J can get the snip (ooohhh, he'd be horrified to see it written out like that. LOL) I am sure it'll be a few years though.

Hugs. Take Mag's advice and have a steak. YUM!

Tim is snipped - but due to my own health issues - I have to remain on birth control. SERIOUSLY check into the patch and the ring!

I was on the patch from shortly after Alex's birth until . . . about February. I have no complaints about it - with the exception that I did have a minor skin irritation from the glue on the patch. Nothing severe - I just had to constantly switch where I was wearing it - and would have to treat the skin where it was the week before with cortizone. And I couldn't wear it on my butt - at all - because my butt broke out TERRIBLE - and I didn't want to wear it on my shoulder or arm because I'm always swimming or in a silk t or something. I really wanted to try the ring - but because of my history with cervical cancer - I'm not a good candidate. In April - my doctor told me that if I wanted to try it - I could. OH MY GOSH - I LOVE IT. You insert it the Sunday after your period - three weeks later you take it out. You have your period. The next Sunday you put it back in. THAT IS IT! AND - I've never had better periods! The estrogen level is SOOOOOOOOOO low - - - because it doesn't have to go through your digestive track and into your blood stream - it's amazing. No nauseaus, no back aches, no pms, and SERIOUSLY, a 3 day, light, barely bleeding period. I am anemic - I've been on iron supplements for years and years (had to give myself shots at one point in time) and I don't experience the fatigue during my period now like I used to. It's been amazing. And VERY LITTLE to remember!

There are so many other options - check into them!

Hi Min

Here I go again, with one of my dumb questions...haha.

Is the ring the same as an IUD?

Tara, my sister left the shot for Nuvaring. She LOVES it. Same experience as Mindy's. If I may, I'll answer for her. The ring is just a little "jelly ring" (remember jelly bracelets? Much the same) and it just sort of hangs out around your cervix. An IUD requires a doctors visit to insert and has more physical risks (worries of puncture's and such). The IUD is VERY non-invasive.

I am still only on the mini pill (estrogen has in the past done a number on me, and the mini pill is progestin only) but if and when I get sick of worrying about this danged "Same time every single day or you have to use back up" pill, I will request the ring because I know the estrogen won't hit my blood stream directly.

Well, I hope it all turns out well. I just went off so we could try to have a baby and mine just came 17 days late. It's so not normal for me, but I'm taking it in stride. Mine is pretty normal from a "flow" standpoint so far. Going off the pill, apparently does strange things to us. So you are not alone in the abnormal period thing. And here's to no longer being on the pill!!

Bec is right on. It's a ring you insert into your vagina, and it "hangs out" at the base of your cervix. It's soft, once it's in you can't feel a thing. On the sex issue (I know you are thinking it - so I'm telling ya, LOL!) Tim CAN feel it - but it doesn't bother him at all. If it DOES bother your honey, you can remove it for up to 4 hours without any concern at all.

If it's something you are interested in . . . . go to www.nuvaring.com - GREAT, very informative website.

There are different forms of IUD's - and due to the fact that I have an "abnormal uterus" - it isn't an option for me - so I've never researched them. At all. I've never tried the shots - I know WAY too many people that had horrific experiences with them - I know 2 or 3 that swear by them - but I won't risk it - especially from a MENTAL health standpoint.

The 3 day, super light periods have been amazing. The estrogen level has been perfectly controlling my endo., it's the most amazing thing I've ever been on. I will never stop using it - unless I'm forced or I hit menopause!! LOL

I TOTALLY want to try the nuvaring. But my stupid butthole insurance won't pay for it! My SO pays $15.00 for a Vasectomy!!! But they can’t help me pay for a friggin’ ring? Ok, I’m a little peeved. LOL

It will cost me about $45 every month if I pay for it myself.I can’t afford it this year. But next year, if it looks like I’m going to have to keep doing something to control my periods, I will put money in my health flex plan for it.

Meantime, I am going to pray that Maggie is right and everything will smooth out with time and go have that steak! :)

Thanks to all of you for making me feel better.

p.s. lighter today…it’s lasted a WEEK, but it’s almost over. YAY!

I'm with you on the insurance NOT paying for it! DH's vasectomy was $35.00 (for EVERYTHING, the initial consultation with the urologist, the pre-op, the surgery, the pain meds, the post op) but I pay $36.00 a month for the Nuva-Ring - because my insurance won't pay one red cent for it (I get it at Sam's Club - it's $10.00 cheaper there than the pharmacy I usually use.) I'm CONVINCED the health care industry is misogynist. My insurance will pay for DH's vasectomy, they'll pay for 80% of a Viagra prescription - but they won't pay ONE RED CENT for the ring, because "there are other forms of birth control that are just as effective." HELLO! When they are causing you nauseas, diarhea, vomiting, and/or you can't remember to take them - they ARE NOT just as effective! Yet they'll pay for 9 months of prenatal care and vitamins and labor and delivery!!!!!! IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand not being able to afford it - I've been there with other things. Big hugs! Have a nice steak, a glass of red wine (always helps me) and snuggle up to a hot water bottle or heating pad! I hope given some time no hormones, your body evens out entirely and you don't anything at all!
