I fired a gun for the first time. Shane is a pro with one (used to be certified to conceal)so he wanted to teach me how to handle one. He owns a pistol that was his father's and it's kept up VERY high in the house and there are no bullets on our property. He pulls out the gun to show some fundamentals before doing anything and as he began to hand me the gun, I fell apart and started crying. I was that nervous and intimidated over this weapon. He asked me if I was sure I wanted to do this and I told him I just needed a minute to collect myself and then I took it in my hands and learned how to hold it, engage and disengage the safety, etc. We went to the shooting range and the first shot I fired was almost dead center!!! Then I kept going and I hit the center red circle. Shane was impressed and even questioned if I actually was doing it for the first time. I told him it was my very first time and he should have been able to tell by my reaction in the kitchen to the gun. We kept the target as a souvenier of my first time out there. It was kinda fun to do something different and I must admit, it sure felt powerful to have that thing and know that I had total control over something. Gave me some confidence I never knew I had. He's so cute now. He called me "Shooter" or "Little Bad-A$$".

FUN!

J and I have a shot gun in the house from his brother (locked up. We brought it home by plane, and I was VERY nervous about "checking it in". LOL). He has been meaning to take me out to a range and give it a try. I'd LOVE to do that. Sounds fun to me.

Good job with the target. We both agreed before I even moved in long time ago, that we needed a gun safe if there was going to be a child in the house, although truthfully I have to use a military style stance in order to jack the slide on the 45 so there's no way dd would be strong enough and ours has about 3 million safety features on it--okay so that's a bit of an exagerration but unless is locked and cocked and you have your hand positioned correctly on the handle and trigger, it won't fire. I find it incredibly intimidating and was proud since I'd never shot a gun before that I didn't drop it. I didn't do poorly for my first time but can't say I enjoy it. The first time last last year on our camping trip; dd watched well behind the firing line with dh and earplugs. It was good because she developed a healthy respect. I figured I needed to learn how to fire if we were going to have weapons in the house. And dd needs to understand that they are there and that they are dangerous if handled improperly and that she should never even try to touch them (dh will teach her to shoot when she's older if she wants but she'd only 7 so a bit young yet in my opinion). And as I said, the gun safe is locked as an extra protection.

I'm glad you had fun!

I LOVE shooting! I'm a first-class marksman, and I have a concealed weapons permit for 3 guns. My dad is a classified "sharp shooter" and he had me out shooting when I was 5 . . and I started doing "Cowboy Competitions" with a 6 shooter revolver when I was 8, the only girl, and I have tons of medals and awards . . . I shot competively until I was 16, and took it up again when I was 22 with my ex, and we shot together for two years before the hobby again fell by the way side.

My dad and I took TT shooting for the first time in January . . . he was VERY intimidated, refused to load it, and basically just stood at the line and we had to hand him the gun and he shot until it was empty and handed it back. LOL I enrolled him in the gun safety coarse at my favorite gun shop and he did much better on our next trips out shooting.

I took Jojo out with my dad for his 6th birthday . . . he shot my Ruger 22 long rifle (it was mine when I was a little girl - it's got a short stock so he can handle it, and virtually no kick) and just LOVED it. He took the kids' gun safety and education class through the NRA and had a blast. He went to a cowboy competition and is really excited to be old enough to participate.

I have 7 long rifles, 2 shotguns, and 3 pistols, all stored in a push button lock safe . . .

Golf, I'm not interested . . . but guns! TOOOOO fun!

That's a line I would NEVER have imagined hearing from you!! LOL I feel better though. I was afraid I was the only girl out there who WANTED to learn how to shoot. ;)

I thought I'd mentioned on many occassions that I shoot?????

I LOVE guns . . . was raised around them . . . they are very comfortable and alot of fun to me . . . AND . . . back when I was being stalked . . . it gave me piece of mind to know if the situation arose, I could defend myself.

My redneck confession - back when I worked with this girl, Carrie, her and I used to go with the guys from the Engineering Dept every Thursday night to a local gun range where they did "shot gun bowling" on Thursday nights. Shot gun bowling is just like regular bowling, you keep score, there are pins, but you use a shot gun with single buck shot instead of a ball. LOL I was REALLY good. That was TOOOOO much fun.

Too funny, both of you. I didn't even have a choice, MG was like here's a perfect opportunity for you to try it out. And since he's got medals for the highest level of marksmanship from when he was in the Army, I certainly trust him to teach me proper gun safety. We'd had several sessions on simply handling, loading, safe unloading, etc prior to that point but I really hadn't expected to be shooting when we started that weekend. You should have heard him with his buddies though, bragging about how well I did with my first time ever shooting and having started me out on a 45 pistol.

Shane is hoping to get certified again. I encourage it. He plans to teach Dylan to shoot soon. He will be six in May so he can try with a rifle. Shan'es family have always had guns. His mother is a great shooter, which surprises me because she seems so sweet and conservative. I can't see her handling a gun. LOL! But I loved it and want to continue learning. I didn't load it, but I planted my feet firmly, held my arms nice and strong, and aimed and FIRE! It had some kick and eventually, my hands became a little unsteady after a few rounds, but that's to be expected for a beginner. I think that I'm going to be quite good if I just practice. Shane drew a picture showing me the view I needed before firing. Sure enough, it worked. That target was hit!! Shane was impressed! He was praising me constantly. So I'm for me!

Yea!
