main perimeter of the fortress remains intact...a few cracks remaining. i had plans to rebuild those last night after speaking with SO, but he showed up after ds went to bed with a pot of flowers. he said he thought since i was spending so much time working on my walls, that i should install some shelving and use flowers to brighten the place up a bit. ok, i think he gets it. so far so good. i really appreciate all of the support i got, it never ceases to amaze me how strangers can help out more than friends. i used these boards during the demise of my marriage (betrayed spouses, during the divorce (surviving divorce) around childcare issues (can't remember the name of that one) and now as i enter a new phase of the ongoing saga of life! i know, as lizarddance noted that it is better to be in the game than to numb out and not take any risks. i spent the last few years numbing out, and that served a function but it is time. i realize i run the risk of seeming like a neurotic as i explain my baggage to the new guy, but to not explain it to him would leave him feeling like he did something wrong, or without any context for my "prickly" (as he puts it) reactions at times. and he seems to realize that one can pet a porcupine, if one takes their time and proceeds VERY cautiously. so here i shall be for awhile...thanks again!
louise

LOL about the flower pot! At least this guy understands and is willing to be there for you!
So maybe now instead of tearing the walls down, installing a window or asking him inside, you need to just sit on the edge for awhile. Take the time to know this guy and be cautious, that's fine, if that will help you to work through things. Remember, no two people are alike. What one person did to hurt you may not happen with the next. The only way to grow is to go out and take that chance.
So baby steps, like in the movie "what about bob?"
