Shane not taking this well...

I posted the whole thing in Wednesday Woes, so just refer back to that.

He's hating it. He's run that department for a year now and they decided that they want to let another guy shine so they tell Shane he needs to let this guy be his boss for a couple of months so they can determine if this guy is GM material. They all know the guy knows not even half of what Shane knows about the car business yet they insist on letting him test for it. What a slap in the face. SO not only is Shane being sort of demoted (still a manager, still same pay), he's got to let a guy with less knowledge take over a department he perfected.

The used and new departments were in seperate buildings and they merged and that didn't work so they are all splitting up again to their respective buildings. The sales people could choose where they wanted to go when the split happened the other day and all of Shane's original team insisted they go work for him again. That's loyalty. They love him and respect him because he's good and he's tough and they know he's the man! But they got to find out that yeah, they still work for him, but ultimately, he's not the big boss anymore. What a crock! But I know they will still all got o him for the advice and not the other guy. No one respects some dude they don't know to come in and take over. He was with the company already, but at another store, so they have no idea how he works. And then one more salesperson was brought over to the used department and Shane wanted him there, but this guy claimed he was promised Shane's job in a month so poor Shane had to go clear that up.

Shane isn't taking it well at all. He's got his job and he's secure in it, but to have this happen when he works his butt off every day is just hard for him. He tells me to be supportive, but how can I? I don't support companies that do that to their employees and espcially companies that cause my husband to come home making exhaustion noises all night. This place is gonna kill him.

I think you said it was old management that hired him, and everyone else has been put in place by new management, right? I think it's tough to survive that situation, but it also sounds like he is doing a good job - his guys want to work with him, management has said there is no plan to replace him. He just needs to hang in there and play the politics to get through this transition.

It's complicated...the CEO has been there for YEARS, the owner, of course has always been there and the old GM was there all along too, so there really was no new or old management. The GM knew he was looking late last year and since Shane had worked there years ago, the GM called him and told him to get down there and apply. Management usually trusts one another to bring in the best fit and they all knew Shane so it was safe to hire him right away. But since Shane was the only person there that was hired by the old GM, they were a little worried he'd leave when the guy was "rassigned". Whatever that means. We're not exactly sure. But Shane stayed. And why not? He was head of used cars, makes good money, and has excellent insurance that we can't exactly let go of right now. It's just hard to see him so down. But he knows it will be okay, it's just getting over the hump that has been created. I hate it when they allow people to take over that know less than those who are already doing well.

If I were a boss, I'd look at who has the most knowledge and not whose been there longest. Chances are, that the person there longer isn't right for the job because they just don't have what it takes. But a person that has been in the business for so long like Shane can be the best fit because he knows the in's and out's. Not that I think Shane needs to be GM or anything. If he wants it, he's a good fit, but I'm not sore over that. I'm just saying that it's not fair how this guy who is not nearly as knowledgeable gets to take over as Shane's boss of the department just because they want to give him a chance to shine. Shane shines everyday and look where it got him....

Just crappy!
