New Year's Resolutions . . . . . .
| Wed, 12-29-2004 - 3:18pm |
It's that time again!!!!!!
What do you want to accomplish this year?
What is one bad habit you have you want to drop?
What is one thing you REALLY want to do this year that is FUN?
A survey in Newsweek said that people who WRITE DOWN their resolutions KEEP THEM 70% of the time! So write them down here, print them out, and if you like, we'll hold you accountable!!!! Wouldn't you love that? 30 or so women breathing down your neck about taking a class, giving up cursing, exercising 4 times a week, etc??!?!?!?!!?

Fun! I guess I need to write mine down huh? :)
What do you want to accomplish this year? - Get more in shape. I was GOING to lose weight (yeah, I know. again) but that shouldn't be happening any times soon. Also, would like to buy a house and get debt issues resolved. (firstamendment, would LOVE your input on this. That was you that said you were debt free now right?)
What is one bad habit you have you want to drop? I was going to drink less. I already win on that one! ;) Also, still want to keep my vehicle cleaner. Nasty bad habit of throwing everything in there.
What is one thing you REALLY want to do this year that is FUN? - Travel!!! To Denver to see Andrea. Home to see my sister. To South Dakota to see my other sister. Other places. That's what I want. We'll see how it all goes.
What do you want to accomplish this year?
I want to continue to lessen my debt and to grow my business.
What is one bad habit you have you want to drop?
Bad language - it is getting better but sometimes a thing or two slips.
What is one thing you REALLY want to do this year that is FUN?
Take my son on a fun bike trip somewhere.
OK...first I am so happy today because my two major goals were accomplished THIS year.
1) the stripes on my belt for karate
and
2) I found out about today...I got AN A IN MY CLASS! I'm so excited!!!
So, I have more hope for making the goals I have next year
1) Get into the grad program
2) get another stripe on my belt
3) get the ESL/english class started and make progress with it.
here's to 2005..can't believe it's almost here!
What do you want to accomplish this year?
I want to continue losing weight and get into shape. I am also planning to start school again in January, and I want to make sure that I start AND finish that. I won't be finished next year, but if I stay in all year it will be a major task!
What is one bad habit you have you want to drop?
I want to stop rushing my 3 year old in the morning and figure out a good morning routine for us. Mornings are so difficult for her and I don't want to add to that.
What is one thing you REALLY want to do this year that is FUN?
VACATION!! I want to go on a real vacation for a full week.
Not debt free but working on it :) There are four boards here that can help with that. There is the Debt Support Group (more dealing with the problems that got you in debt and support for getting out of debt), Debt Q&A (more how-to of getting out of debt and dealing with credit card/credit report issues), Tracking Your Spending (they have a thread for budget spreadsheets under "Tracking Questions" (last post was Dec-17) and my spreadsheet is attached in post #9 in that thread) and the Budget Tips and Ideas board (a great place to start if your expenses exceed your income).
Here is a link to all the money message boards: http://www.ivillage.com/money/boards/?arrivalSA=1&cobrandRef=0&arrival_freqCap=1&pba=adid=13013281
My new year's resolution: Keep Doing What I'm Doing.
Last year I resolved to do lots of things to take care of me. The things I did were: start weight lifting and exercising regularly (my problem was I needed to gain weight, I had involuntary weight loss from my illness and was 92 lbs, I started working out in January and I'm still going)... get my disease under control (I've been doing well since I started a new drug in February and the exercising has helped a lot)... change jobs to one with less stress and fewer hours (accomplished in May)... get divorced (finalized in September)... get my finances under control (I have made huge improvements in this area but it's an ongoing process). I also moved all by myself in July. It was probably a silly thing to not ask for help when you have a chronic illness, but I felt I had to know I could rely on only myself. I don't have a lot of friends here, my family is not here, I don't know if my relationship with my bf will last and I certainly was not going to ask my ex for help. I did hire movers but I did all the packing and unpacking myself, and did three car-loads myself too. At several points I thought it was going to kill me but I made it through and I got a huge boost of self confidence from it. Also, starting and continuing therapy was a gift I gave myself in 2004 that will continue in 2005.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I can't think of any big accomplishments for me this year. A big one might be to have no huge life changing events or upheavals. 2004 was divorce, changing jobs and moving. 2003 was being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, ending my marriage and selling my house. 2002 was huge job stress (anyone remember Andersen?) and the beginning of symptoms of my disease. 2001 was probably a good year but having a one year old was a lot of work. 2000 was having a baby and buying a house. I could really use a year of everything stay as it is!
BAD HABITS
My only bad habit is too much time on ivillage. Not sure if I'm really committed to changing that. Ok, I can think of one thing. Lately I haven't been very good at taking some of my medications. I take the heavy duty ones (I have to or I'd be bed ridden), but the daily one's that help with the side effects I forget sometimes. They are just as important for my long term health and I need to be better at taking them. I probably have other bad habits but I can't think of them. I can't drink because of one of my medications, I don't go out much except to dinner or a sometimes a movie with my bf, I have my spending under control for once in my life... so I think I'm good.
SOMETHING FUN
I'm stumped. I do have a plan to go visit family, probably in April, but I do that every year. I know. I would like to take dd to the natural history museum in NYC. We can take the train there and stay overnight. I know the place is huge and I am sure you can buy a two day pass. I want to go when the weather is nice. That will be my fun thing :)

First, I want to finalize my divorce & really make this new job a success........please wish me luck with this.
Second, I am still 50+ pounds overweight & want to take it off. Need to exercise & I want to make time for that. I have lost 60 already, but I haven't lost any more in over a year.
Third, I want to be a better person to others. I want others to see this divorce & seperation as a new beginning for me. I used to be really selfish & bitchy to people. My town is very small & everone knows everyone.....I am hoping this seperation & divorce will show people it was just the marriage making me miserable, not me.
Last, I want to do something fun. I want to do the things I haven't for so long because of my ex. Things like Octoberfest & Taste of Cincinnati & Jammin on Main! Just simple things, but stuff important to me.
Good Luck to everyone else as well!
Hey, I forgot to thank you for this info. Went looking for it again today, so I can get rolling on cleaning up some debt and move onward with pre-qual for home purchase. I am sure somewhere there I'll get good links for getting our credit reports ordered.
Thank you again! Wish me luck. I HATE money. ;)
Hi there
My main thing I want to accomplish is to get my debt paid off and for James and I to start saving up for a house.
The bad habit I need to get rid of is not handling my anger correctly when I'm po'd at James. I can really be mean-spirited towards him and I want to cut it out.
We're also joining the Y as a family, so that should be a good thing for all of us, we ALL need the exercise. ;)
Happy New Year!
Tara
Here is an article about the getting free credit reports (there is a new law in 2005 that enables you to get them free once each year). When you can get them for free depends on what state you live in, but all the how/when is in this article: http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/Banking/P71745.asp
I get mine from myfico.com so I can also get my credit score for each report. Most try to get them once a year but I'm obsessed and I do it about every 6 months. My goals is to buy a home by Summer 2006 right before dd starts first grade. I am going to be sooooo ready by then!
I'm glad this post got bumped up. I was hoping that more of us would have resolutions to make. I always get good ideas from hearing other's resolutions.
