Hi All,
Thought I would update you all on how I finally went to a Single Moms support group at my church last night. Wow, what a blessing! It was great talking with people who understood completely what I was talking about.... ie work, home, kids, cleaning, childcare, exes, and dating.
And I got such encouragement!! Let me share this one... The group leader said she's met some of the BEST children come from single mom homes. These children have seen their mom smile thru adversity and rise above. These children learn at an earlier age (than maybe 2-parent homes) how to appreciate life and the blessings of life. The group leader gave two examples of youth leaders in my church who are on-fire for God and came from single mom homes. So, I got out of it that God can and DOES turn every situation around for his glory. And I have no shame and no condemnation for being a single mom. Even if you are not religious, I hope you get that as single moms we have a rare opportunity to pass along perserverence to our children. Not with an attitude of shame and guilt, but with an attitude of survival and triumph. I can see that my ds7 is on his way to having that same healthy attitude. He's seen me get out of the bad marriage. He's a witness to our struggle and our faith. He believed with me in better days. And yes, the better days have arrived. And now my children and I sing praises. If I've done ONE thing... I hope I pass along an attitude of faith and trust in God.
Thanks for letting me share.

That is all true indeed. Did you know that Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong was raised by a single mom? Her book is so wonderful - a great read.
Glad to hear you found such a good support group. Please do keep us posted about all you learn and see at your meetings.
