I watched that episode of Oprah today- and I don't think I could ever go that far to make an income. But I do understand her situation, about how to make money and STILL be able to be around for the kids when they need her. I understand her not wanting to take a respectable day
I agree Shrimpy, working as a nurse is a more acceptable form of making a living however ever though we work our butts off and catch slack alot of the times its easier to make more money taking your clothes off that risking taking care of people from all over with all kinds of infectious diseases. I could never take my clothes off for money.I have had the fantasy of it at one point but deep down inside I know I would never be the type that could. My dad was a minister and I think it would break his heart.I dont know what I would do if it came down to being at the very bottom,I wouldnt let my kid starve but I would find another means.
Ugh. I watched the Oprah show and was frankly pretty annoyed by the whole show which isnt always the case with Oprah and I:) The whole freegan ( is that how you spell it) thing was disturbing to me in that there was never any Doctor on there to dispute that this was a safe way of feeding our families. Eating food that was in a dumpster is dangerous no matter how you cut it and there was also no info on how to cut that risk or minimize it with safe food practices when you got home or which food you should leave and which looked edible. It was just a one sided portrayal and hype TV. The other segment on the stripper annoyed me possibly more because here she is and she is basically saying that in a dark time where she had nothing she made this decision and has never stopped since. She now admittedly has money in savings and yet she is still doing it. If I give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she HAD todo this at a certain time ( and no, I wouldnt do that but thats just me) when is it time to stop the insanity? It seems she is teaching her girl that it is ok to do ANYTHING to put food on the table. And I just kept thinking someone was going to step in and say something along the lines of " YOu cant feel good stil doing this and we know you want to set a better example. The only reason you arent already is because you need support to figure something different out. So here are the resources you need and we are going to have a lfie coach come to your house, sort your finances and set you up in a different profession. We are hiring you a lawyer to get the back child support and find your ex and we are going to make sure that in the next six months, you are feeling better about yourself and helping your family" Instead it was all about what great abs she had and how none of us could understand how she was doing it because this way she is mom of the year and can be home when her kids get home from school. We would all like to be home when they get home from school and some of us are at times but it who ever said you cant raise great kids and still work a regular job? I was offended by that personally and I AM home a lot. It seemed to me that this woman was feeling horrible about what she was doing but made up for it in her own mind by convincing herself that she was better than other moms since she was home more. HOw do you think her kids felt at night with a sitter knowing mommy was going to go take her clothes off for money? Talk about a peaceful night's sleep!! OK I am off the soap box - I just didnt like the show at all-can you tell?lol

I think for men the jobs or professions that are frowned on by society are less than for women.
Maybe someone here can come up with a socially unacceptable job for a man?
