Brazilian Wax?

I'm going to the beach in a couple of weeks and am thinking about getting a Brazilian Wax before I go. I normally shave down there, but I'm tired of the little razor bumps and stubble.

How much hair growth do you need when you get one (as in weeks worth)?

How long does the redness/pinkness last afterwards?

I'm sure it probably hurts like Hell, so I won't even ask about that!

Anything else I should know?

Thanx,
Anna Helene

I just had my first one of the season done, and I L*O*V*E love it!!
You need about 3 weeks growth to have a clean wax done -- any less than that and the wax can't/won't grab the hair.

The redness lasts less than a day and contrary to popular belief, it really doesn't hurt much -- even in the crack! You'll have a few "ZOWIE!" moments, but there isn't pain.

ENJOY!!

How much hair growth do you need when you get one (as in weeks worth)? - They use warm wax, which tends to stick to the hair easier, so it can be quite short - i.e. 1/4 inch is probably a good length, but it can be shorter.

How long does the redness/pinkness last afterwards? Probably depends on how sensitive you are - for me it's about 1 - 1 1/2 days. After about 24 hours you might find you have developed pimply bumps where the hair follicles were pulled out. They can hurt like hell, but just gently exfoliate them away - it's just part of the healing process.

I'm sure it probably hurts like Hell, so I won't even ask about that! - Yep, sure does, and seeing as you have been shaving all this time, your hair follicles will be thicker than they would have been had you not shaved, so you will find it might hurt more.

Anything else I should know? -
if they put talcum powder over the area, it's to help stop the wax from sticking to the skin, thus hurting less.

Some places might require you to remove all your clothing - I used to go to a place that required me to wear a g-string, so I wasn't exposing anything that didn't need to be exposed, and stopped the wax from ending up where it didn't need to be. Made it more pleasant for both me, and the person doing the waxing.

Oh, and make sure you exfoliate every day, so you don't get so many ingrown hairs. You can purchase some solution that also helps to reduce the problem.

Subsequent wax jobs don't hurt so much, because you get them done before all the hair has grown back through.

Waxing is the only to go, once you get waxed you will ask yourself why didn't I do it sooner. You just cann't beleive how good you will feel. Waxing is the way to get really "smooth" and for a long time. Forget shaving and stubble, besides the longer you have been waxing the easer it is. Sometimes we book a double appointment and DW gets waxed and when she is done I am ready and on the table while she gets dressed. Now I do wax myself sometimes and or wax DW sometimes too. But you need 4 to 5 weeks of hair growth which is about 1/4" long. As for does it hurt, if you expect it to I guess it would, if you expect to have a little sting for a second that goes away then I think that is what you get. I suggest just go get a brazilian and enjoy being smooth.

Take a Tylenol an hour and a half or so before you go. And avoid going right before or after your period, you're more sensitive.

Totally agree with you on the period thing. I made the mistake of going a few days before my period was due a couple of years back, and oh my god the pain was awful!

well I know your vacation has passed but I know a little bit about Brazilian wax.
1) If you pluck your eyebrows then it hurts only a little more than that.
2) MAKE SURE you hold the skin TIGHTLY! This greatly decreases the pain.
3) The hair should be about 3/4-1 inch.
4) The redness doesn't last very long at all.
5) The wax will last, on average, about one week.
6) It feels beautiful and soft afterwards.
7) No bumps!
8) No itching!

So you started the post May 2, my guess is you were still shaving then. If you have left the razor alone you may still need to wait another two weeks before you get waxed. When you get your brazilian you will really love it. Keep us posted on your progress.
