Brazilian Wax?
| Tue, 05-02-2006 - 9:11pm |
I'm going to the beach in a couple of weeks and am thinking about getting a Brazilian Wax before I go. I normally shave down there, but I'm tired of the little razor bumps and stubble.
How much hair growth do you need when you get one (as in weeks worth)?
How long does the redness/pinkness last afterwards?
I'm sure it probably hurts like Hell, so I won't even ask about that!
Anything else I should know?
Thanx,
Anna Helene

when I got them, I needed 1/4" growth I was told.
I just had my first one of the season done, and I L*O*V*E love it!!
You need about 3 weeks growth to have a clean wax done -- any less than that and the wax can't/won't grab the hair.
The redness lasts less than a day and contrary to popular belief, it really doesn't hurt much -- even in the crack! You'll have a few "ZOWIE!" moments, but there isn't pain.
ENJOY!!
How much hair growth do you need when you get one (as in weeks worth)? - They use warm wax, which tends to stick to the hair easier, so it can be quite short - i.e. 1/4 inch is probably a good length, but it can be shorter.
How long does the redness/pinkness last afterwards? Probably depends on how sensitive you are - for me it's about 1 - 1 1/2 days. After about 24 hours you might find you have developed pimply bumps where the hair follicles were pulled out. They can hurt like hell, but just gently exfoliate them away - it's just part of the healing process.
I'm sure it probably hurts like Hell, so I won't even ask about that! - Yep, sure does, and seeing as you have been shaving all this time, your hair follicles will be thicker than they would have been had you not shaved, so you will find it might hurt more.
Anything else I should know? -
if they put talcum powder over the area, it's to help stop the wax from sticking to the skin, thus hurting less.
Some places might require you to remove all your clothing - I used to go to a place that required me to wear a g-string, so I wasn't exposing anything that didn't need to be exposed, and stopped the wax from ending up where it didn't need to be. Made it more pleasant for both me, and the person doing the waxing.
Oh, and make sure you exfoliate every day, so you don't get so many ingrown hairs. You can purchase some solution that also helps to reduce the problem.
Subsequent wax jobs don't hurt so much, because you get them done before all the hair has grown back through.
Take a Tylenol an hour and a half or so before you go. And avoid going right before or after your period, you're more sensitive.
So, have you decided yet?
1) If you pluck your eyebrows then it hurts only a little more than that.
2) MAKE SURE you hold the skin TIGHTLY! This greatly decreases the pain.
3) The hair should be about 3/4-1 inch.
4) The redness doesn't last very long at all.
5) The wax will last, on average, about one week.
6) It feels beautiful and soft afterwards.
7) No bumps!
8) No itching!
