Are female condoms popular?

I guess I'm trying to get a survey of how many here actually use the female condom. I know that trojan has a fairly new brand of female condoms out called Elexa. I actually overheard a lady in the checkout line at Walmart raving about how wonderful they were (female condoms) for spontaneity in sex. I went on the net and did some research about how these condoms can help with the spontaneous aspect of sex, lol. The websites that I read stated that female condoms can stay in place for up to 8 hours once inserted. Then it dawned on me, if you already have a condom on *in*, then there's no need for you or your guy to put off sex if you want to get busy...anywhere. This would be great for me and my husband because our main source of birth control is Natural family planning and condoms. The only thing that I'm not to sure about is the big ring and length of plastic that continues to be present outside of the vagina even during intercourse. I also read that insertion of these condoms can be quite uncomfortable. Has anyone had experience with these types of condoms, and do you feel that it gives you more control over your sex life? Looking forward to your responses.

The Elexa condoms are actually just regular condoms "designed for women."

Thanks for the feedback, little mascara, and the clarification about the Elexa condom. I should clarify that this lady I was speaking of who was raving about the female condoms wasn't talking about the Elexa brand--I think the way I worded my post might have made it seem that she was. I mentioned the Elexa Trojan because I've been seeing so many advertisements and commercials about them. Reality female condoms was one of the ones I read about earlier. That condom, like a couple of others can be inserted hours prior to intercourse, but once again I don't know how comfortable that would be, and you're right it is for one time use, unlike a diaphragm. I read about one called the V Amour. The shape of the outer ring is shaped like a "V" to be more contoured to a female's body. Now that I've heard that the Elexa's are just regular condoms made with females in mind, then I might just try them out to see what they're like. I've been avoiding them whenever my husband and I go shopping because I was under the impression that it was a "real" female condom, and I have no experience with those at all, lol.
