How to be happy

I love life. I want to be happy and enjoy life. My husband thinks smiling and laughing is silly and unnecessary. He does his best to not smile, must control his every emotion. He even criticizes my 3 and 5 year olds for "being silly". I don't know what to do. He feels like a cancer in our family. What do I do? I just want to be happy and have happy daughters.

Hi, I vote BE as HAPPY as often as possible. Being somber will not improve anyone's life. Don't let him drag

Are you in-laws also so unsmiling and serious, or unaffectionate? Did they not teach him to play, relax, have fun when he was a child, or is this something that he picked up later on? Has he always been like this? Is he depressed or worried? Was he sent to boarding school at a very young age?

I would suggest talking to your paediatrician and ask what you can do. Your paediatrician could also talk to your husband. I might also ask a good friend of his who is also a father to talk to him about children *needing* to be silly, to laugh and have fun. Sometimes, things like this is better heard, accepted and taught when it comes from someone else.
