It's a whole scary and painful cycle, isn't it?
That is so very kind of your dentist! Very caring and understanding!
I took my nephew a dental appointment when he had to have his first procedure for a dental cavity. The dentist specializes in paediatric dentistry, and she was very good! She made him laugh, then she quietly explained what she was going to do. She told him that whenever he felt that she had to stop, or whenever he felt that it hurt or felt weird, to raise his hand. She kept talking to him and explaining throughout the procedure, and he did raise his hand a couple of times but it all went well. I think she also gave him a mirror so that he could see what was going on, as opposed to imagining the worst things that were going on.
