It's a gift but...

Today a friend and I were shopping for a wedding gift. He finally settled for a nice decorative piece that they happy couple can put somewhere in their house. This piece is nice, a touch of old and modern and neutral enough in colour to go with a contemporary interior.
This got me thinking of all the gifts that my parents have received over the years, which now populate their house. Some are gorgeous, some are useful, some are both. There are also a few that are... well, gaudy without being interesting. Yet these are gifts that were given with good intent and a loving heart.
Have you received such gifts? What have you done with them? Are they in some place of honour because after all, these are gifts and one should never snub a gift? Have you relegated them to dark corners and spaces that you rarely set your foot in? Do you only air them when the person who had gifted them to you visits?
