When I am anxious and worried I...

  • bury my head in the sand. Everything's alright!
  • Talk to my SO and/or close circle to enlist their help and support
  • Talk to a member of clergy/doctor/counsellor
  • Self-medicate and/or use other negative coping skills
  • Take a deep breath and address the issue(s)
  • See if there is a self-help book
  • Look for/post on a message board
  • Use positive coping skills
  • Become paralyzed and don't do anything until it's almost too late

I have an anxiety attack and become paralyzed. I use my coping skills to circumvent the anxiety attack, and nudge myself frequently to take tiny steps so that I don't become paralyzed with fear and leave tasks unattended.

I hide away and pull out all my coping techniques.

My mother does the same thing, Hugs.

I think that we are all emotional eaters - it's just that we don't have the same emotional triggers or each the same amounts. When I turn to food, it means that something happened to make me feel small and beaten.

Those are excellent coping skills, Donna!

I don't have an SO, so I try to talk with close friends. I also tell myself to step back - and a lot of times my worry levels go down sufficiently for me to look at things calmly again.

I tend to do that, too.

Generally I talk to S/O or close friends (can include message boards or a spiritual advisor). Then Take some deep breaths and deal with it.

I have occasionally been known to hide my head in the sand and deny a problem or become paralyzed by it, but I am doing better at looking for help when I need it.
