My mother does the same thing, Hugs.
I think that we are all emotional eaters - it's just that we don't have the same emotional triggers or each the same amounts. When I turn to food, it means that something happened to make me feel small and beaten.
Those are excellent coping skills, Donna!
I don't have an SO, so I try to talk with close friends. I also tell myself to step back - and a lot of times my worry levels go down sufficiently for me to look at things calmly again.

Generally I talk to S/O or close friends (can include message boards or a spiritual advisor). Then Take some deep breaths and deal with it.
I have occasionally been known to hide my head in the sand and deny a problem or become paralyzed by it, but I am doing better at looking for help when I need it.
