Opposition to the ruling party?

Does opposition to the current president and administration hurt or help us as a country? We have the freedom to speak openly against our current administration (free country) but does that make us look weak to other countries? Do people who oppose Obama still respect the office of the presidency?

Helps.

We have the freedom to speak openly against our current administration (free country) but does that make us look weak to other countries?

Who cares?

Do people who oppose Obama still respect the office of the presidency?

Yes. Why wouldn't they? You can respect the office. You can even respect the guy in it without respecting his policies.

It is Obama that makes us look weak to other countries, not people opposing him. I think one of the reasons they oppose him is because of respect for the office and our constitution, not a lack thereof.

Tom,

Thanks for your reply and thought out answers.

I did want to elicit responses and see how people truly respond to open question as this (one that tries to be non-partisan). I feel most discussions are based on either if you are left or right and why.

It is interesting that you take vocal opposition to the presidency as a positive sign. From where I stand, I believe I'm a little more pessimistic. I believe more people tend to join the crowd and join the opinions of others based strictly on political affiliation - though, that is obviously an over generalization and there are truly intelligent people out there (are they the minority?).

Do republicans support Obama while still opposing his political policies? Do democrats just feel republicans oppose him because he is a democrat and ignore their concerns no matter what? I would also flip this to the past administration if someone feels so inclined...

To answer your question, I both stay up pretty late and I also am on the west coast. I feel the night is a good time to think... pretty quiet.

It would be good to hear what others say. I'd like to hear all sides.

It helps, of course, to prevent radicals from "fundamentally changing" our nation in to a weak, socialist country that panders to it's enemies and betrays it's friends.

Ah form your earlier posts it seem that you have a grudge against people who want a better life. They want to have independence from
those who strive to control them. Real freedom and liberty!

Not at all...as long as they earn that "better life" for themselves, rather than by taking from other hard working people.

Good for them. They can put their hands to use working rather than waiting for a handout.

Just a quick response in case people start questioning my motives as it seems to be starting...

I love the ability for us to speak against our president and whatever else we choose. You can not top the freedom in America and i'm not so disillusioned to possibly consider that. I think we should all strive for a better life for ourselves, the next generation, and, if inclined, other struggling peoples of the world.

I do however question the two party system and if people make allegiances to the concept of republican or democrat (we can throw in tea party, liberal, libertarian, etc) without realizing the greater concept of us all being American. But then again, as it may have already been alluded to, maybe that is what makes us American.
