I take 200 mg Lamictal. I've been on it for several months. Works well for me. No side effects at this point. I haven't gained or lost any weight from the med which is nice. I tried to get on Wellbutrin but pdoc said no because of history for eating disorder (increased risk of seizures if you have a history of anorexia). I wound up not taking an anti depressant but had some luck with depression fading with lamictal and some changes at home. Amanda

Hi Joh. I take Lamictal, 300 mg, and have been as high as 400 mg before. I have no side effects from it, and it works well to stabilize my moods. I can't take Wellbutrin for the same reason as Amanda.

Johanna, I've taken Lamictal and had some BIG problems with it, but because of memory problems (non-BP related) I can't remember what now, but they were sufficiently horrid that I quit. However, I've known a number of people who took it with no problems or some nausea at first, that subsided after a few weeks.

I also take Wellbutrin and have had almost no side effects--the only one that I'm really aware of is that it sometimes blunts my appetitie--for me that is not a problem, but a BENEFIT-LOL! I am still having some problems with depression, but am really sure that a lot of it is caused not so much by BP, but situations.

I, too have a heck of a time remembering my meds (especially when my memory really takes one of its periodic downhill slides). Here's some tricks that usually help me, except when my memory is at it's worst (like now :-<): If you don't have one already--get you one of the little pill containers that have sections for each day of the week & different times of the day. Try to get in the habit of filling it, regularly at approximately the same time, on whatever day you choose as your "day". Keep the container where it will be most likely to catch your eye & remind you. Try to take your meds with something else that happens regularly in your day, like when you get up, have dinner, etc. If you have a reminder program on your computer use it & if worse comes to worse ask your DH to remind you until you get in the habit of taking them regularly. And it helps to keep a couple of everything in a small container you carry with you, so if you do forget to take them at the regular time, you can take them when you do remember.

If you come up with any others, please let me know 'cause I'm really struggling with it right now (when I usually don't thanks to my reminders, as above) & DD is being a typical teen & not wanting to be my memory!

Hugs, Marci

Johanna-

I can't take lamictal. I wanted to rip my skin off from all the itching I had. I was immediately taken off that med. As for wellbutrin-I can't take it due to history of Seizures.

I hope things work out for you!

Hi Johanna-

I take 450mg of Wellbutrin and 100mg of Lamictal. I have the shakes a little from the Wellbutrin but I am on a pretty high dose to prevent me from dropping to a suicidal level. The Lamictal I didn't really see much difference but I think I can see now it is helping me some. I also take Risperdal.

i've been on lamictal for 2yrs. it's been very helpful. only side-effects were clumsiness and dizziness in the beginning. once reached therapeutic dose those disappeared. i take 200 mg now but took as much as 400mg at one point.

i took wellbutrin 300 last summer. within a day i was jumping outa my skin: dizzy, no appetite, hypo beginning. was taken off that week. this summer pdoc tried a half-dose of 150 mg. didn't go hypo, but dizziness was beyond acceptable so off of that now.

currently taking: lamictal 200 mg

lexapro 60 mg

klonopin 1 mg.

I'm actually quite happy with Lamictal (300mg), but Wellbutrin sends me manic faster than you can say BOO!

Hello,

I am on Lamictal 100mg. I am happy with it. I just found out I have BP II

about 6 months ago. Lamictal has no side effects except sleepiness. I might try taking at night- I hope it will be in my system all day though.

I do still have ups and downs. For instance, if I am a situation where say - I am interested in dating someone- I want things to happen RIGHT AWAY. Then I get depressed if nothing happens right away. I am Trying to learn how to not let situations and other people affect my moods.

Also, I do miss my highs and ZEST for life. My friends say I'm not so much out of control. And I feel like I can have better conversations with normal people. (by normal, I mean boring people who can just sit all day and talk about TV shows- I usually get bored very quickly with people with NO emotion.) know what I mean?

Just wanted to let you know that I take 200 mgs of Lamictal before bed (about 10 p.m.) and it "stays" with me all day. It's the only med I'm on. Amanda
