I, too, suffered with hives in my 20's while going through a semi-stressful time at work. I thought it was allergies from the clothing I had to wear (panty hose, bras, etc.). I would get them all over though. I had work friends who got them also. This was before my Dx. They resolved by themselves and I've rarely had an episode since. Never did figure it out.

Since, I have heard that hives are often the body's reaction to STRESS. Once it begins, it's sort of hard to stop because of the snowball effect (you become stressed by the hives themselves!). I know people with terrible hives who simply had to change their lifestyle with food and working out religeously and avoiding stressful situations (even when it meant disengaging from family who were triggers). It eventually worked!

It concerns me because my youngest dd went through a period of hives once - no explaination. A little Benedryl cleared it up, but I couldn't continue that forever. They kept sending her home from school with them. It hasn't come up for years now, but I imagine they will come back to haunt her someday.

Perhaps it's life's way of telling you to slow down for a while. Easier said than done!

I think Jane Pauley was connecting her racing or stress to the hives and perhaps this was an early sign of a hypo-manic state that eventually led to her dx, albeit because of the unfortunate drugs that they attempted to treat her with.
