Has your child been the target of bullying because of their allergy?

Wow. This is so upsetting. Kids can be so mean, but the part that shocked me the most was

"Sicherer noted, 18 of those who were bullied, or about 20 percent, were teased or harassed by a teacher or other school staff."

Seriously?! That is disgusting. There is no excuse for that. I agree with the last paragraph

"Younger children might be excused from knowing that certain foods could cause dangerous reactions, Kuczynski said. But older teens and young adults should certainly know better."

It is so important for schools to teach allergy awareness. I did when I was teaching, but it's a fine line between educating the students and victimizing the allergic child. I believe it's best to do the teaching as young as possible, when children are more accepting of differences.

Thanks for the article. It's frightening, but it's something we need to be aware of. I certainly will be keeping a very close eye on things when Matti eventually starts school (he's 13 months now).
