Thoughts on recent Muslim uproars?

Between the burning of the Koran and the community center (not a Mosque) near (not at) Ground Zero, Islam has been in the news a lot.

I think it's ironic that people find this a case where they can be justifiably intolerant. ACK.

The Qu'ran burning thing is awful. The media should not have given this man any coverage. I heard he has only 50 followers. It's ridiculous. He's just the most extreme example of the hypocrisy of Christianity.

I don't get the Islamic center uproar either. If there are porn shops near there, which is what I heard, it's hardly hallowed ground, and even if it were, all Muslims are not like the terrorists, just as all Christians are not like that crazy preacher that wants to burn the Qu'ran.

Until 2006, I used to play NTN trivia at a bar 3 blocks north of what used to be the World Trade Center, next door was a strip joint. I guess that some of these people do not want to bump into a Muslim equivalent of a YMCA while visiting the bars and strip joints in the area.

FWIW, 5 blocks away from ground zero is a store front mosque that has been there since the early 1970's and there was also a Muslim prayer room on the 17th floor of the South Tower (the real Ground Zero mosque).

A lot of these people seem to forget that there were 60 innocent Muslims killed at the WTC on 9/11, one of whom was a fellow employee of mine (I did not know him - there were 30,000 employees at Pitney Bowes at the time).

I read in the paper this morning a comment from a man who's son was killed in one of the towers. He referenced the strip clubs in the vicinity of Ground Zero and said that there was no comparing those to a Mosque because it wasnt Strippers who murdered his son.

Will of the people is one thing but there comes a point where the people should be collectively protected from their own my humblest of opinions.

A friend on Facebook shared this Keith Olbermann video on the community center:

It's a 12 minute video, but it's interesting if you have a few minutes to spare.

His son was killed by serious whack jobs, of which the vast majority of Muslims are not.
