Marathon question and new seat advice

I have 2 questions.
1. We have a marathon for my DS who is 7 months 17 lbs, and 27 inches long. We transitioned him to the convertible seat because he was screaming the whole time he was in the car, every time he was in the car. A friend suggested switching to the bigger seat and it has helped a little. My question is this. The straps seem very low across his thighs. Is that okay? For some reason it just seems like they aren't in the right spot, but that could be just because it's not in the sam spot his infant seat was hitting him.
2. I need a recommendation on another convertible seat. Right now we still have his infant seat (chicco key fit) in DH's car, but we are going to need another seat eventually, and I was thinking of asking for one from MIL for christmas. We would probably move the marathon we currently have into DS's 06 accord, so the new seat would be in an 06 Sienna (middle row, captains chair). I was thinking of a new marathon, or a radian. I am interested in a seat that harnesses to a high weight and is really plushy, soft and comfy. I've seen a lot of seats that are really hard plastic with practically no cushioning, and I wouldn't want to sit in them. I think DS needs a comfy seat, because he is in the car 1 hr most days (work commute). Price is not as important to me as safety and comfort.
Thanks in advance!
