I've never been one to save the chicken or turkey bones from a whole bird to make stock. Just seemed like way too much work & mess. I had nothing to actually base that opinion on, just something I resisted doing.

Well, I'm a convert after finding and trying directions on making stock in the crockpot. Why did I never think of that??? So easy! I will not buy canned chicken broth ever again! :-)

Here's the directions I used.

I always save my turkey bones from thanksgiving and any other time I happen to roast a turkey. I put them in a freezer bag, breaking as many as necessary to make them fit in a couple of bags. I use them for stock for my gravy the following year. I also save the whole chicken bones for the same purpose. I love it when my kids come home from school on the day I've been making broth and say "yum, mom's been cooking! Smells like Thanksgiving!" LOL
