med changed = episode?

I had this big long post typed out but Iguess something ate it! Has anyone ever changed meds and had an episode brought on? I think I may be having a mixed state, it's only been since thurs so it really hasn't been long enough to be a true mixed state.. but it feels bad. I can post the whole story in another post but I'd like to keep this one technical. I cut my depakote dosage to 500mg and added 25mg topamax. went to the doc, doc said bad things would happen because of the low dep dosage. well, they DID happen. I'm not sure if it was just him suggesting they would or not. It seems like the topamax is giving me a lot more/worse cognitive side effects now than it did when I took it two years ago too. that's a little weird. any thoughts?

Don'tcha just hate it when the board does that--always seems to do it to me when I've written something really long and particulary wise-LOL!
No experience with Topamax itself, but I do know that going off and back on to meds can have different side effects/reactions than the first time around-BTDT!

Hey you! I'm really glad to see you back...I've thought about you many times and wondered how you were doing! I'm on Topamax. Topamax makes me really stupid, lol! So I can relate to your cognitive effects. However, I didn't have them at only 25 mgs. I take 100 mgs and the cognitive effects sometimes come and go. I got used to them really quickly. You may be having more of an effect from decreasing the Depakote, rather than Topamax. Keep in close touch with your pdoc. If you're in the beginning stages of a mixed episode, you need your pdoc. Post as much as you need to, okay? Stay safe! We're here.
