Just had fight with work- poss trigs

Boy am I angry! It's amazing how little understanding or sympathy people with a mental illness can get. If you read my previous post, you know I had a very, very, rough day yesterday and had to leave. I couldn't get any work done due to my thoughts wondering all over the place. Instead of understanding and concern, I got stony glares from the site manager, and then told off for not filling out my production sheet today. Then she asked me how much I had actually done yesterday, if anything, and fill out that form every day! I can't help but think, if I had passed out, or been physically sick somehow the managers would have been a lot more understanding. They won't even look at me now, like they might catch it. I was so angry I burst into tears and started typing nasty notes to my supervisor, who never responds to problems. I was even considering typing one to the regional manager in Omaha. I guess they're surprised at my sudden "down fall". I have been with this company for 7 years and was often one of the highest producers on record. They can't seem to understand, that right now I am incapable of being their number one production machine. Now I am in fear of loosing my job. They don't care one bit about my problems, I am just a production number to them and I had better "get with it". Very sad, after all I have done for them in the past!
Sorry am I grumping so much! I have no one to call until my new insurance kicks in.
Then I have to choose a new doc. Gotta love these darn stressers!

Hi Jodie!
Jodie,
Employers are notorious for not been understanding about anything that affects their bottom line--no matter if you're the most productive one there otherwise--they expect it all the time.
What can the EA people do? Can they protect me from loosing my job? I always thought all they did was listen to you and that was it. If they can lend a hand in helping me remain employed, perhaps I should call them after all. I just get so embarrassed and stressed.

Hey there...there are federal laws in place that can protect you from being discriminated against, including being terminated from your job, because of mental illness...you need to call the EA people and BE VERY HONEST with them about everything you are going through.
All EA can do is guide you. Your employer does not know who or why someone has consulted EA, but they are still a good place to start. If they know about your illness, then they are liable to make reasonable accomodations that do not effect their profitablity as a whole.
From personal experience, I do not hide what I have from people, but I don't go out of my way to tell others. I have worked in many places where people understood and even were interested in my illness, but the ABSOLUTE WORST place for understanding was when I worked at an organizational psychology firm. Granted they do not specialize in the standard psychology, but they still had Ph.D's. in psychology and they did not and would not understand! There not really doctors anyway...lol.

Again I'm late and everyone has said pretty much everything there is to say so...I'll just ditto them. I did want to say that I have diabetes and that a cemicial imbalance in my pancrious(SP?) my bp is just a chem imbalance in another organ and that's how I handle it. As for the discrimination I'm not sure but there might be some info on this site. www.NAMI.org They are the national alliance for the mentally ill. Can't hurt to look.
Love,
Jamie
