Do you "caretake" others??

  • Always! Everyone comes to me for help on EVERY aspect of their lives
  • Only sometimes and if the person seems like they "deserve" it.
  • Rarely / only for good friends
  • Almost never - people have to make me help them.
  • Never! I can hardly help myself! :

I thought I would throw this poll up after reading Marci's vent thread right on the heels of discussing this VERY topic with someone else. It seems like this is a common trait with us, so I wanted to see if we all do seem to end up taking care of others - I know I do, especially when I was "unstable" because then I could ignore my problems and life to "save" them.

Hi th,

I am a definite yes. I agree that it's because I'm "recuing" them and don't have to think about myself. I'm great in an emergency! I can get things done no matter weather I am manic or depressed. Afterwards there is always a crash for me. ALWAYS! I know this and still do it.

Love,

Jamie

just call me superwoman! this role was instilled in me at a very young age. growing up in a house full of active alcoholics, i was always taking care of one of them. first it was my grandmother, then my father whom i lost last year, and now my mother. im actually now not sure how much of my caretaking is codependency anymore after being dx'd with bp.

just like when everyone was saying that i cant handle taking care of my mother after her upcoming surgery, i'll be honest, the words stung but you all are right and im finally starting to realize that.

thanks for posting this poll th;)

hugs!
