Doc Called Back, Finally

Well, my doctor called me back a few minutes ago. She has been trying to get me off of Depakote ER. I have gone from 2000 mg to 1000 mg. Now she wants me to go back up to 1500 mg. I hate Depakote and want off of it. It has made me gain sooooooo much weight, my hair is falling out and my hands shake. I have been on it for almost 3 years. I will increase it again tonight and hopefully I won't feel sick over the next couple of days like I normally do. Thanks for listening and I'll check in tomorrow.

Good Luck. I know how scary it is when you don't want to take something. I was like that with several meds they put me on. Finally with the last (seroquel 800mg/day) I told them....look, either you take me off it, or I'm not taking it anymore. Take your choice. Probably stupid of me, but he took me off the seroquel. I gained so much weight it wasn't funny. But.....now that I'm not taking it...I go through horrible crying spells. I'm only taking paxil CR 50mg/day and klonopin when needed. Before I thought I was over-medicated, now, I feel I'm not medicated enough. Weird. But...I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.

I'm glad your doc called back. I'm sorry the news wasn't great. Maybe you'll be able to try again to get off the dep. It sounds like you're having the worst side effects! Take care and let us know how you are.

Love,

Jamie

Glad you got a call back and hopefully you will be able to go back down soon without the nasty withdrawl.

I just started Epival (Canadian) which is like Depakote. I'm so scared of the weight gain and stuff. Actually I've been researching all these mood stabilizers and all of them have some pretty serious side effects. Hope you can find another that doesn't cause you the SEs.

Love,

Amanda
