I need some distractions
| Tue, 03-08-2005 - 3:24pm |
Hi all.
Let me say I am so tired of sitting home by myself all day long. I don't think that anyone here gets it. After I get the kids off to school, there is no one in the house but me. I do all the "house work" in 30 minutes and I still have 5 hours left before I go to pick the kids up.
I get so bored and lonely. TV here stinks because we only have 20 channels to chose from. (I am not a big TV watcher anyway) The one radio station we get plays music I can't stand. It is snowy, icy

Hey Cyn
If you were closer, I'd tell you to come clean MY house - it could use it :) I know my best friend struggled with the same issue so she got a part time job at the grocery store on base. She only works 4 hours a day a couple days a week but she LOVES it. She had started when her DH was stationed in Malmstrom, and she kept her same payscale when they transferred to England (can't remember the base, but it's a little one).
Another idea, if you are into computers and games at all, is to find a fun distracting computer game. I started out with The Sims. It takes HOURS to get your family and their house up and running (well, it took ME that long) and then to keep everyone happy. Of course, I have moved on from the Sims to a multi-player role playing game called Everquest. It is a lifesaver for me because you really HAVE to pay attention to what you are doing or your character dies. You need to have a decent computer to play it, but once you start playing it (or the sims) most people are severely addicted. I will play Everquest for 8-12 hours at a stretch on some weekends.
Good luck with whatever other ideas you can get! Hopefully you can find something to keep you busy - I know boredom triggers me BIG TIME.
BTW: It's great to see you posting again! We missed you!

Well Cyn, I'm w/ Tracey, Can you come clean my house?!?! lol
Your question is actually my homework from my p/tdoc, I have to list 10 distractions or things to do that will keep me from falling into the "I must" things that I do that I really shouldn't.
Reading is the big one for me but like you I can also go through a book in one day, Guess it's a good thing I use the library huh. Tracey had great idea's about the internet, I love doing jigsaw puzzles online, that keeps me busy sometimes. What about a nice hot soak w/ a candle in the tub?
Good luck to you, Hope you can find something to keep you busy.

Hugs & Positive Thoughts Always,
Hi Tracey,
Thank you for the suggestions. I have the Sims here. I have played it off and on when I really have nothing to do. It is a good game, but it doesn't keep my interest for long. :( I have thought of going to work, but DH has a fit every time I say something about it. It just isn't worth the hassle. I will have to look around online for a game that I can play. Or something. It is either that or take a nap for a couple of hours. My Pdoc is against that, but my primary care doc thinks it is a good idea. Especially if my FMS is flaring up. I don't know which one to listen to.
I have to go get DH up, he slept in today because he has to work tonight.
How are you doing? Thanks for the welcome back. I know I haven't been posting regularly.
Take care.
Love and hugs,
Hi Danielle,
Thank you for the suggestions. We have a library on base, but it is small and doesn't have much of a selection. I thought of taking a bath, but knowing me I would get out and go to sleep. LOL
Cyn, What branch of service is your dh? We are an Air Force family and yes our base library is very small as well. Thankfully our public library isn't too far away so I alternate between the 2. The only thing I like better about the base library is that it is so much easier to renew
Hugs & Positive Thoughts Always,
Hi Danielle,
We are a Air Force family too. Does military life get to me? Yes, some times it does. With all the moving and TDYs and the weird shifts DH works it can get a little overwhelming. Most of the time I like it though. I don't mind the moving as much as I do the TDYs. I have a really hard time being a single parent while he is gone, but I make do the best I can.
I'm glad you are doing better today Cyn and you have your family to keep you distracted.
Military life started getting to me after 9/11 because I lived on Andrews AFB, home of Air Force 1 just 9 miles from the Pentagon. Dh hasn't gone TDY yet. I've been lucky, we've been in 6yrs now but he'll be going to school in another couple of months and will be gone for 4 weeks so then is when I will get the single mother experience. How do you like Germany? We're in Colorado right now and it's ok. The schools are excellent so I'm glad we are here for that at least. The weather here is nutty though. The AF keeps trying to send dh to Robbins GA but we've avoided the assignment so far because it's a
Hugs & Positive Thoughts Always,
Hi Danielle,
I hope your last appt goes well. I am not looking forward to breaking in a new Pdoc when we leave here. I have just found my rhythm with the one that I have now. I don't know much about Robbins AFB, but from what I hear it is supposed to be nice. We get orders every 3 years. I am kind of looking forward to going to Georgia, and kind of not looking forward to it.
I am not a fan of Germany at all. This assignment here has been the worst one we have had so far. The housing stinks, and some of the people are...well I can't think of a way to put it nicely. We have been in 7 years, and just re-upped for 5 more. The school here is ok. It is a DoDDS school. How many kids do you have?
I am off to bed. It is getting late.
Take care.
Love and hugs,
Hi Cyn
My appt went well. He copied my file for me so I can take it to my new p/tdoc. It felt wierd knowing I'm not going to see him anymore but i know I have a new good dr so it was ok. I wish him all the best and hope he enjoys retirement. His wife is going into ProFishing, lol
How much longer do you have to stay in Germany? Bet you're excited to be coming home. My brother is a Marine in Japan and I know he can't wait until his assignment is over and he can come home. So I guess you guys are career huh?!? We're still deciding although we know we could get out now if we wanted to break our enlistment. Dh's career field is changing so rapidly. We've been in just over 6yrs now and have another 4 until reup time.
I have 2 kids, dd 7yrs old & ds 5yrs old. I can hardly beleive my baby is 5!!!! Where did the time go, lol. If you'd like to chat more feel free to email me at danizkitties@adelphia.net
