Seroquel

Hi Ladies,
I need some info on Seroquel. My Pdoc is pulling me off of the Geodon because he thinks it is causing high prolactin blood levels. He wants to replace the Geodon with Seroquel. I know there are a few of you that are on it. So, I am asking you for insights and what

hi cyn,
i have been on seroquel for january and my experience with it, right now is mixed. i have had no side effects other than tiredness, which for me is a good thing. the only problem is my body adjusts very quickly to the dosage and at that point the sedating effect goes away and the other symptoms start creeping back in that the med is warding off (i.e., paranoia, rage, etc.) so i keep requiring increases. i started out at like 75mg in january, i'm now up to 400mgs and he's probably going to increase it again next week as the paranoia and rage issues have started breaking through again and my sleep is not the best, to the point where i've had to throw my xanax (which i hate taking) in on top of the trazodone, seroquel and trileptal just to get to sleep.
but everyone is different. i know there are some on this board who, on a low dose, are sedated very heavily. it just depends on how quickly your body adapts to meds and if you have a hard time finding meds that work.
i know when i first started, pdoc had me on wellbutrin (a.m.) and gabitril. the gabitril had the complete opposite effect than what we were after (or at least that's what i thought at the time), so then he put me on lamictal and xanax in addition to the wellbutrin. i was good for about a week and a half then the rash began. so he pulled me off the lamictal and put me on geodon which made me sick as a dog. i also was having problems with the xanax being too sedating so i stopped that. then he started me with the seroquel and added trileptal to the mix. both of which i've had increased pretty much every visit because my body develops almost an immunity to the meds at their current doses.
i'm sorry this got so wordy. i really didn't intend for that. but that's my experience with seroquel. at the right dose, for me, it works well. hope this helps.
hugs,
traci
Hi Traci,
Thank you for your insight. I have a couple of questions if you wouldn't mind. Have you gained any weight from the Seroquel? I need to gain a few but I don't want to gain 40 like I did with the Zyprexa. That is my biggest issue I think. I can deal with the sedation, and the other side effects. If I gain more than a few pounds it will do no good for my self image. I was horrible depressed and down on myself when I gained weight last summer/fall.
I will be taking the Seroquel at night,as soon as the pharmacy gets it in. they don't have it on formulary here so he had to put in a special request. That will take a few days. I am sorry to hear that you develop an immunity to your meds. I did that with the Neurontin. I finally had to stop because we were at too high of a dose for me to be comfortable. It just didn't work.
Thanks again for your reply. I am sorry to cut this short but it is past my bedtime.
Take care.
Hugs,
Traci,
Developing immunity to medications is an interesting concept.
hi cyn,
well, as far as the weight gain, i can definitely say that has not happened to me. it would be nice, where i'm concerned as i'm about 20 pounds underweight and can't gain to save my soul.
the sedating effect of it is very welcome for me also. i just need to keep getting the dosage upped because it's working less and less. last night my anxiety/rage was so bad i had to dive back into the xanax. after taking my nightly meds i still could not settle down enough to sleep so i ended up taking a xanax which helped me get some sleep, but it still wasn't a solid night. so, i'm thinking pdoc will probably increase the seroquel again when i see him next week. oh joy.
don't get me wrong, when the dose is right i love it. it's just my immunity that ticks me off. i wish you the most success with the seroquel. i know mine's been a god-send. keep me posted.

hi morgaine,
first, let me say it's nice to see you again. i've missed seeing you around.
i'm glad i was able to help in some small way with the tolerance thing. as i put in my reply to cyn, last night was unbearable and i had to add the xanax back to my cocktail. i'm going to try tonight without again and see what happens. but i have an idea pdoc will up the seroquel next week........again. but, whatever works, is the way i look at it.
do keep us posted on how you're doing. we miss you around here.

Hi Traci,
Thanks for answering my questions. :)
Hi Morgaine,
I truly think that one can build up an immunity to meds. I know I did with the Neurontin I was taking. It just stopped being beneficial. I had to argue with my Pdoc to discontinue it, but in the end I
Okay, I hated Seroquel. I was up to 800mg/day. I gained a TON of weight. I can't recall any other side effects, but I do know that trileptal gave me rage fits.
I know it is different with everyone, and the other posts really do show that. I truly hated the med.
I just hope it helps and doesn't effect you negatively.
HUGS!
Carla
Hi Carla,
Thank you for your insight. I am only going to be taking 50 mgs at night to start. I am a little cautious about going too high. I am concerned about the weigh gain. I know I need a few pounds, but I don't want to go over the top. You know?
How are you doing?
Take care.
