TRIGGERS!?!

Some how I missed it, but apparently a short time ago, Tom launched a major verbal barrage of criticism against Brooke Shields and her coming out with her story of post-partum depression and how AD's saved her sanity and life.

This morning the Today show featured an interview with him & in one segment he launched into a virtual diatribe about psychiatry in general, that there is no such think as a chemical imbalance

Now folks, I am a person who loves classical music and PBS, so I never had a special connection to Cruise in the first place (though I did like Risky Business). But, I have problems with him for so many reasons. First off, that "religion" of his- Scientology- is nothing but a crazy cult (granted, I have my own religion, Catholicism, which taught me that). But, anyone who doesn't believe in mental illness has never really had to deal with it. And, people like him can do so much damage. My only hope is that what he said does not catch on...

*** warning may offend ***

In my opinion, that's just Tom Cruise being brainwashed by Scientology. I don't know about it from the "inside" but as a religious studies/psychology scholar I have looked into it (and have the 50lb book "what is scientology"). I don't know, maybe Scientology can do what it says it can do, but how are us normal people supposed to know that? I cannot afford the cost of the initial assessment, let alone the long process of auditing...ah well there's my offensive rant too.

that's exactly why I don't watch much TV. That's just sick, since when is HE a medical expert? I LIVE with this (and watch my brother suffer it too) and have a personal pharmacy and I still wouldn't dare say something remotely so "conclusive." The interviewer should have asked just what medical training , or education period, he has to make such claims. and the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard do not count my friend! If I didn't have the meds I am on and my totally wonderful pdoc, I probably wouldn't even be here, I'd like to know how he answers to that? Should I give it all up for vitamins? and which ones? Why doesn't ANY of my blood work show abnormalities in vitamin levels, HDL/LDL, CBC, liver, renal, heart function....and a whole host of other stuff that I JUST did this month? Of course, he's the expert, so he should be able to explain it ALL. ICK, now I dislike him even more.

Marci,
I could NOT agree more. I didn't see the show, but I've heard him say several of times that if we all followed Scientology (spelling?) that we would be so happy and healthy. BS! Total BS! I posted once about religion, I won't go there, but he enrages me. Oh and his new engagement........Good Grief, they both need to take a valium, I really hate to see them on tv, and they are plastered every freaking place. I've honestly not liked him for a long time, and this solidifies that to a millionth degree!

I've not read what everyone else wrote, I just read your post and hit the roof with you!!!

Let him get sick, or Katie, God forbid him take her to the hospital. It'd fall in on him.

Hugs & Hope

utter disbelief! that's about the cleanest thing i can think to say on that right now. i was unaware of his "religion" and i do use that term very loosely. i am taking a course regarding the different religions of the world, and just looked it up to see where i had read something on that subject recently. my text book states that "scientology is a 'client cult' that offers some kind of service..." which IMHO says it all. it's a cult and i associate cults (possibly unfairly, but) with the likes of david koresh in waco, jim jones in guyanna, charlie manson in california, etc. i have no use for any of them. and how dare this creton to go on national television and tell everyone out there - a large percentage of whom more than likely suffer from a mental illness of some degree, be it bp, depression, schizofrenic (sp)

I had heard all the garbage he spewed about Brooke Shields. I missed this mornings diatribe however. I knew something had happened, when I turned on the TV and heard/saw Al Roker say - "MONDAY -- PART 3 MATT LAUER - TOM CRUISE SMACKDOWN!!! I just had to call my mother and find out what went on - lol.

How I wish that vitamins would take away my rage, anxiety, mania and depression. Wouldn't that be wonderful for us all?

As far as ritalin, I do think it is over-prescribed. My son when he was in the 2nd grade was put on the medicine because the teacher was "positive" he had ADHD. The pediatrician put him on it (adderall) so he could get through the year. He is entering 5th grade and has not been on it since he got out of school in 2nd grade. Teachers say he is wonderful - of course he has his wiggly days, but please - who of us could sit in a classroom for 7 hours and not talk? It's absurd. I could go on all day, but I'll save you all my rants - LOL

Holy moley... now I KNOW I'm in the right group of girls here, lol! I missed all this Tom Cruise stuff (but I'm not a fan of him anyway) but I was raised with a mother who believes very much this way. My bp first emerged as post-partum depression and I had to hide the fact that I was taking meds from my mom, because I didn't feel strong enough to take the scolding. My mother is in bp-denial and tries to self-medicate with herbs and healhy living. let me tell ya... it is NOT working.
