TRIGGERS!?!
Some how I missed it, but apparently a short time ago, Tom launched a major verbal barrage of criticism against Brooke Shields and her coming out with her story of post-partum depression and how AD's saved her sanity and life.
This morning the Today show featured an interview with him & in one segment he launched into a virtual diatribe about psychiatry in general, that there is no such think as a chemical imbalance

Morgaine,
We don't really disagree--a lot of people will see his comments
here's some of what he said:
Cruise clashes on TV over drugs
Hollywood star Tom Cruise has clashed onscreen with US TV host Matt Lauer after he questioned the actor's stance against anti-depressant drugs.
It follows Cruise's recent criticism of Brooke Shields, who has admitted taking drugs for post-natal depression.
In a heated exchange, Cruise - who was promoting his film War of the Worlds - told the NBC presenter to "be more responsible" when discussing the drugs.
Cruise follows the Scientology movement which is against psychiatric medicine.
Defending his remarks, the actor took exception when Lauer suggested some people could benefit from anti-depressants, such as Ritalin.
"Matt. Matt. Matt, you don't even - you're glib. You don't even know what Ritalin is," he said.
"If you start talking about chemical inbalance, you have to evaluate and read the research papers on how they came up with these theories, Matt, okay? That's what I've done.
"Psychiatry is a pseudo science," he said.
"She doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt.
"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do," he added.
When Lauer said he had known people who had been helped by anti-depressants, Cruise accused him of irresponsibly advocating drugs about which he knew little on national television.
"Just knowing people who are on Ritalin isn't enough. You should be a little more responsible," he said.
Cruise announced his engagement to Katie Holmes at a press conference in Paris on 17 June, and his public declarations of love for the actress have been a feature of his work promoting War of the Worlds.

ROTFLMAO to alot of what has been said ...especially Morgaine ;)
I'd just like to clarify the issue of a "cult" (and no I didn't take offence to anything anyone has said.
I took "Cults in North America" as one of my courses in the last few years. You want to know what, the first religion discussed was mine (Wicca...and yes I may have mentioned I play guitar at a Christian church but that's a discussion I'll have personally if you want). Not all cults are apocalyptic. Cults is a term to describe new religions. So we now use the term New Religious Movements (NRMs). After a while, if it survives and grows, a religion may move out of that "designmation". The first thing that we had to do in that class was figure out what cult this could be (Altbough i can't remember all of what it said, but the point is, it was Christianity). Even Christianity was seen as a cult when it began. This came up again in my mind this year when I did "Death and the Afterlife in Early Christianity and Judaism" (they sure aren't SPECIFIC with their courses are they? haha)
Well that's my blurb for the day.
Also, if you would like to know just what scientology has to say about science, psychology/psychiatry and religion, let me know, I'll get out "the book" :)
Amanda
Traci,
I was in the same spot on 9/11.
Oh!
"Psychiatry is a pseudo science," he said.
I have only one thing to say about that - throughout history cutting-edge scientific beliefs have often been regarded as magic and imagination.
Amanda,
Isn't your degree related to religion?
Amanda,
After reading your post I would like to ask a favor of you if I may. I just finished my rough draft for my final paper in my religion course and it is on the topic of the Wiccan religion. If I may, I'd like to send it to you for your opinion. Let me know:)
Hugs,
Traci
Traci,
If you don't mind, I'd like to read it too, mostly just out of interest, but I'm a pretty good editor if you'd like suggestions--I just can't type or spell antmore.
