-- U.S. agriculture officials say tests on cow in the United States have come back positive for mad cow disease.--

I get the breaking news updates. I have since 9/11. I'm glad I'm trying to cut out meat to a degree.

Thought I'd share this with you all.

I don't eat red meat that much, but boy can I put away the Ben & Jerry's - LOL. I think they only use milk from certain type cows though - lol

wow, i actually have some intelligent input here. I just got back from a trip to Vermont and we visited the Ben & Jerry's factory. They've struck a deal with Vermont dairy farmers to buy their milk if they promise not to use hormones on their cattle. So there ya go! Not sure if that covers the mad cow thing, but at least it's hormone free, lol!

From my interaction with people in the UK (where they have been fighting MCD in mass quantities for YEARS), most red meat is FINE. When they had LARGE herds of cows infected (which we really don't at this time) then the UK banned eating meat on the bone, such as ribs. The disease is most concentrated in the tissue where it is connected to the bone. Other areas of tissue, such as the meaty area of a steak, are typically fine.

Unless they start issuing warning to cut specific things from you diet, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's good to stay informed, but we are pretty vigilint on MCD here.

Actually, on a related subject, we have a similar disease which has infected mass quantities of the deer in the US and no testing or control of that has ever been done.
