Since we've had a lot of new folks join us recently how about listing the following:

Age

City, State where you live

when you were dx'd BP

a little bit about yourself &/or family

(for those of you who aren't ready to give us your name, can you tell us a nickname you'd like to go by--sometimes going just by screen names is too impersonal, but if that's what you want to do, that's okay too)

Hugs,

Marci

Carla
Charleston, WV
36 years old, no kids, divorced from an abusive man who I was with for 12 yrs
DX'd a few years ago, 2002, but have been battling since teens if not earlier

Let's see, I LOVE Elliott Sadler and Bobby Labonte (#18, hence the screen name ES wasn't driving when I signed up on ivillage) NASCAR is too cool.

I love my country music. =o) I like to cook, clean, love to watch old movies from the 20's to the late 40's. Cary Grant and Carole Lombard are my favorite old movie stars. George Clooney, Adam Sandler and Ashley Judd are my new favorites. Hmmmm....what else can I tell you. Oh, I'm a twin.

greetings,

I am Jenne, i'm 35 and i live in Boston
originally from Brooklyn, NY.

i was dx'd in November 2004 after many years
of being given misdiagnoses. i began Lithium and
it instantly brought much needed relief.

then in May this year i found out i am pregnant.

now i am off the meds and it's been very hard,
as i'm also going through many other things,
happy and sad. My father is very close to the
end of his battle with cancer. every day has been
really rough between that and being pregnant.

and somehow, i keep this smile on my face.

I have a wonderful partner in life, Michael,
and 2 furry kids, my cats Symon and Priddie.

Hi! I am 36, dx'd in 1996 but didn't get on meds until 2000. I know this has been since at least my teens, and I also havea 39 year old brother who is BP. I am about to clebrate 13 wonderful years with my DH (though we've been together 15), so he's seen the worst of this and still takes care of me! :) We have 3 kids, 10, 8 and 6 plus a gang of pets! I am a SAHM, artist, love the Red Sox I better stop now or I'll "talk" all day!

Hi All,

Traci, 38, Northern Virginia here.

Compared to most (but not all) I'm relatively new to this. I was dx'd "officially" back in december of '04. Since then, have tried a ton of different meds before finding the ones that work - sort of. Now just trying to hone in on the right dosage.

I am happily divorced for 5 years now:) LOL! I have 3 great kids - 15 yo dd; 12 yo dd; and my 8 yo ds (spitting image of his grandpa & namesake). As with many of you, I can also trace this back to my teen years and piece a lot of my past together now. As a result, am keeping tdoc very busy these days. LOL!

I'm going to college after all these years in pursuit of a clinical social workers license. i have a ways to go, but i have 3 kids who keep pushing me to pursue my dreams! Did I mention my kids are Great!? Oh, and I drive a school bus for a living, so during the summer, I have more time to study and sneak in a little bit of traveling and vacationing with my kids.

Those, I think are the "good" highlights of me. The rest of it I'm just trying to ignore today. LOL!

Welcome to all the newcomers! I look forward to getting to know you.

Hugs,

Traci

Amanda

24

near Toronto, Ontario, Canada

dx'd I don't know when the original suspicion was but my current pdoc has been iffy about the dx, so I have nothing official from her. I'm sure you've all read that in one of my posts (I'd hope so). Previous (and current from other dr's) dx's: OCD, GAD, BPD, BPI, BPII, dissociative and psyhcotic features and episodes, dysthymia, major depression, panic disorder with agorophobia, PTSD, anorexia, bulimia, binge-eating disorder (currently ED-NOS), DD-NOS (dissociative disorder), schizoaffective, chronic tic disorder. I'm pretty sure there are others lol. Then there is the physical... I was born cross-eyed and had an operation at 1 1/2yrs. I still have a lazy eye and 20/50 vision. Joint problems (osteo possibly, from the ED) also aggravated by my scoliosis and lordosis. Asthma, allergies, repetitive stress injury in my shoulder from work, tinnitis, tremors, PMDD.

I'm on Wellbutrin, Epival (Depakote), Perphenazine (AP), Ponstan (another miracle drug IMHO, totally different reason!), Ativan. I was on Lectopam which was dc'd in march (rx'd my dr, dc'd by pdoc-can't they work on this together?!) All of that's gone now, but won't go there. Also dc'd trazodone when I started perphenazine b/c it will increase effects of trazodone. Still I think if I really need to sleep I'll take it. I'm sure pdoc wouldn't be too happy about that. But, hey if I can only see her every 6 weeks, what am I supposed to do? I have no contact information and she's only in the school twice a week.

I am a twin (have a brother...who is so opposite me...I got all the physical and mental ailments, he got nothing). University student (and graduate), aspiring teacher. Finished Religious Studies, now doing Geography. I love art and music and photography. It's a wonder I didn't stick with music and go into that. I figured I would at some point in my life, but not now. I dropped out of music lessons in HS when I was depressed and overwhelmed. I regret it now. I also love the outdoors. I pretty much put all my interests together and study outside, and am a landscape photographer (for the most part).

Well that's enough of a "short" intro haha.

Amanda
