I'm on a different mood stabilizer

I've been reading how many of you are on lithium or Depakote. I tried those too, with results that weren't good. They BOTH made me gain a lot of weight (it's been years and the weight is still there), and did they work? I still ended up in the hospital many times on both- lithium seemed to have a partial response with me, and Depakote did too, and a nastier effect of Depakote was that I seemed stoned all the time when I was on it. I tried Tegretol too, but that didn't work well, either.
In fall of 2000, I was hospitalized for the umpteenth time, and the doc I had there took me off lithium and put me on Neurontin. Boy was it a blessing! While it is not perfect, it has worked far better than anything else I have been on. And the best thing? NO WEIGHT GAIN!
Just thought I'd share, because I think my experience makes it worth trying for others. Note that I also take it with Geodon, and the occasional Ativan and antidepressant.

Hi...I've been on all of them...Lithium was the LAST one I tried...I'm glad Neurontin worked for you though!
I too have been hospitalized a lot. Not much fun, but if you need it, you need it, right?
Hugs to you!
