Here is what is going on. As many of you know Laura was dx'd BP last year. Ever since we moved here and she has started school she has become withdrawn, and cries easily. She hasn't made any friends yet, and

Hi Traci,

Yes, Laura is in the 2nd grade. She just turned 7. Your memory is quite good, we did relocate to GA. I have thought about having her see a tdoc. I will make my final decison after I talk with her teacher. It just really sucks because I feel so helpless in this situation. I have thought

Hey, Cyn. I'll keep you guys in my thoughts. It's so hard watching your kids struggle. My daughter is 8 and in 3rd grade. I know she has some friends, but she would LOVE to be one of those popular girls that everyone wants to be with. I hope your daughter finds one good friend soon. I never had a huge circle of friends, but the few I had I could depend on for anything and I still stay in contact with. Keep your chin up. This too shall pass.

i know how hard this is on you as a parent, especially being able to physically watch it when they are outside. and as amanda pointed out, even if she finds one really good friend, that will more than make up for the ones that have not given her the time of day. i see this on my bus almost daily. the clicks that, when i was a kid, didn't start 'til middle or even high school have already started by 2nd grade......sometimes even 1st! it breaks my heart to see it and i try to smooth the ruffled feathers everytime it happens on my bus. but that's just how kids are and it's sad.

i'm sure she will make a friend before long. if the teacher is worth a hill of beans, she will also make a concerted effort to help speed this process up. another thought that just occured to me is our elementary school has a pta directory. it has the names and telephone numbers of all the parents who signed up to be in it. maybe outside of the school setting, if your daughter has access to someone's phone number she could call them and invite them over for a play date one afternoon or over the weekend?

my eldest has always had a problem making friends and now at 15 she has a very solid but very small circle of friends. and for her, that's ok. that's how she likes it, so i don't press it. these are kids that will be there for her regardless. it's taken her 10 years to build up this circle, but it's solid now. and, come to think of it, she was in 2nd grade when the first child of that circle appeared. so there is definitely hope.

i hope this helps. i'm not to confident in my advice-giving skills these days. but do keep us posted.

Oh Cyn! I'm so sorry she is going through this. I went through this when I was little too. It breaks my heart for Laura, and I just said a prayer for her.

My son is going through something too, but I will post about that separately.

Hang in there. My thoughts are with you all.

Love you.
